Success? Perhaps not...

I am 144.4 pounds. When I graduated from the Air Force Basic Military Training (BMT), after going through 6 weeks of physical training and stress and pushing my body to the limits, I weighed 150 pounds and I could run faster than I ever have, even up to now. After fluctuating after my first pregnancy all the way up to 166 pounds I am now less than I weighed at 17 when I first joined the military and almost to the weight I was when I was 16. I ordered a bunch of clothes for my Hawaii vacation in 2 weeks. Half of the order arrived today. I ordered all medium shirts (I usually am between a medium and a large... but since I stopped nursing so I thought stick with medium) and size 9 bottoms (I wear an 8 in Old Navy Jeans and the occasional 10, but they are getting loose aroung the waist).

So success? All of the shirts were a bit baggy, not so much that I would send them back but enough that I kind of hope they shrink a bit in the wash.

Perhaps not... All of the bottoms were too small... Entirely too tight around the hips/booty area.

Its a bit discouraging though, I keep trying to tell myself its because I was shopping in junior's sizes or because I've now got permanently widened hips from childbirth or because I'm building too much muscle in my thighs... I just don't know. Its just kind of sad. Is it really impossible for me to be a size 5/6? I know I can't make my hips grow smaller... but Biggest Loser contestants are BIG and their frames seem to get smaller.... I just don't know:( I am happy to be out of large shirts and to fit well into size small/medium tops without a HUGE belly pooch.

It's quite possible it's because of muscle or childbirth. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Frames don't shrink - at least your bones don't - and I think that the muscle would be better than being skinny skinny.

You should be proud of where you are now ! ;)

When I had my son (at 30), I fairly quickly got back down pretty close to pre-pregnancy weight, and was at a fairly lean point (could see my hip bones.) But even some of my "loose" pre-pregnancy pants didn't come close to fitting - my hips spread A LOT. The bones are just a lot further apart than they used to be. Kind of depressed me for a while, but then I realized that it isn't going to go back, so I better just do the best with what I've got - which when I get to my goal will be pretty damn hot!
  • Pant sizes for women are never consistent; even in the same brand they can fluctuate depending on the style or the year they were made. For example the 3 pairs of pants I wear most often are sized 7, 8 and 5... and it's the size 5 that are loose on me. I've found it's a lot more accurate (and less discouraging) to measure my waist and hips every few weeks or so and just ignore the numbers on the tags.
  • Like its already said it depends on the clothe. Size 10 pants could be too big, too small, or just right depending on the maker.
Go by how you look and feel in a nice fitting outfit not by the size on the label.

Ditto! I have gotten to the point where I have to try everything on in the store, so I know it fits. Don't get discouraged. Keep your eye on the goal - long term fitness!
