Too scared to up my calorie intake

I've been eating around 1500-1600 calories daily and I classify myself as lightly active. I've slowly been losing weight, instead of maintaining it. I've gotten so used to eating close to 1600 a day that I couldn't imagine eating more. Today for example, I went on a 3 hour hike and I can't get over the fact that I may have to eat more. Should I just eat the amount I usually eat, or closer to 2000 because of the exercise I did. My goal is to maintain. Any suggestions for what to do? Thanks.

Calories eaten minus calories burned is your total calorie intake for the day (net calories). You want your net calories to hit 1600. If you've exercised enough to burn 600 calories, you'll probably want to eat around 2200 calories for the day to reach that 1600 net calorie goal.

If your goal is to maintain, eat up around 2000 if that's what you burn. If you can't imagine eating more than 1600, you might want to consider that you might want to talk to someone about possible disordered eating habits.
