Can I do it?

So, this is a poster for a marathon/half marathon/walkathon on october 5th at Guatemala, it is to assist a Down's Sindrome foundation. (the cost to join is about $15 in case you wondered)

I am trying to push myself to walk more and I am considering this to be a test to see if I can go through it. Thing is that even with 30 pounds less I am positively scared to run it since I've not done it before.

Should I jump in on it? Do the walkathon? Shadow people at the race? Push myself before or just do it and hope for the best?

I say go for it. If you're not a runner at all, 5K might be your better choice, if you're set on running. Look up "Couch to 5K" for a training program. It's a nine program, but I think you could start today, and still feel way more prepared in eight weeks than doing nothing.

Otherwise, it would totally be great to do the walkalthon, too. You still get the race experience (everyone's gotta start somewhere), and walking 10K is still a significant length to push yourself physically.

TL;DR--Walk or run, train for either appropriately (you've got a solid 8 weeks to prepare), and have fun!

Of course you can do it!!! I'm a walker (running doesn't agree with my knees), but do what you're comfortable with. And it's for an excellent cause either way. Good luck!!
