I am just wondering if anyone (well guess that would be women, lol) have experience being on Mirena (IUD) while trying to loose weight. My doctor assures me that it won't interfere with my progress.

Thanks,
Erin

I've had it for 3 years and blamed my weight gain on it. but now that i'm actively trying to lose weight im having no problems! I've lost 50 lbs in 6 months :-)
  • I had it for a year and I was at 125 and went up in six months to 140. I know it was the Mirena that made me gain the weight. I have taken mine out along with several of my friend's and are now loosing weight. They say it is not the Mirena that makes you gain weight but I know 100% it was the Mirena. It was nice not to have a period but not worth the weight gain.

I lost five pounds as soon as I had mine taken out.
  • I am not on that particular brand of birth control. I did, however, start on a regular 28 day pill this past week after being off of them for awhile. I gained a pound, but I have noticed that once my body is used to the pills, weight starts to come off again. This is from past experience. Several years ago, I lost 40 pounds and was on the pill the entire time.
