Need help Filling in the food diary

Hi, I am filling in my food diary. I weighed and measured everything at breakfast before I ate it. What I find frustrating is that I can't adjust the amounts of the foods. For example I had 65 g of mixed seedless grapes from Tesco but I can only find 80 g of grapes and I can't adjust the weight. :(

    Make it a 1.2 serving.
  • You can always adjust the serving to reflect the lower amount. For instance, if 80 grams of grapes is 1 serving in the database, then 65/80 is 0.81 serving - try putting in the lower serving amount and the calories will adjust accordingly.

Check theres not a 1 g option on the drop down menu if not look for another entry that gives that option. I've just looked and found one.

Bear this frustration in mind when you are adding new foods to the data base yourself. Instead of just writing in half the useful information, write in a few different ways of measuring a serving e.g. grams, cups and tbsp with options for 1 g and other size for example. Also make sure you fill in all the information available on any packet your drawing your info from. Its very frustrating for me that people don't write on the amount of calcium in things like yoghurt and cheese.

Also with vegetables its very annoying when people give you the amount for cooked but not raw stuff.

I think you can add info to existing entries to stop them mounting up. There's something you can do to beat that problem, though i realise it takes more effort and time.

Hi thank you for your help. I joined years ago but never got into it. So I have decided to actually do something about my weight this time. So I am not too sure how to use the diary I didn't realise that I can fill in all the info.

yes. Then you will have 65 1g servings instead of 1 65g serving :)

The best entries (no asterisk, which means they were MFP supplied, not user supplied) almost always have 100 g serving options. If you have 65 grams, then, you'd say .65 serving. If it's 112 grams, it would be 1.12 servings. Easy-peasy.

Search for grapes, raw (or that model for other items).

    Good for you, returning!

Other commenters covered your original query, so I just want to say that the logging will get MUCH easier very quickly! And if you use the app on your phone, you'll get the benefit of scanning the barcode which can be a real timesaver.

    Go you!
