Personal Training...

Hi everyone,

I am new to this (well 3 weeks in) and have hired a personal trainer that I see 3x a week for an hour. So far I've lost 13lbs which I'm really pleased with, but I haven't been logging this exercise in MFP. My question is... should I? I have a calorie goal of 1410 per day which I have been sticking to, and I worry that if I were to enter the exercise I would be tempted to eat the calories I've earned. Does that make sense?

Also I have no idea how many cals I would burn in a typical session. Trainer reckons between 500-600 but it's a mixture of cardio / strength training so again I'm not sure how I would log it.

Basically I just want to know if it matters that I'm not logging / eating my calories earned through exercise...

Many thanks!

I log my strength training and lifting under "Cardio" because it allows me to enter calories burned. Continue to do what works for you, but if you would like to keep a track of what you have done, start logging. The important thing is you continue to succeed.

Well it depends. Did your personal trainer assign that calorie goal to you? If so then you should ask him if he based it off of your TDEE or BMR. If it was your TDEE then you do not need to log your exercise into MFP because the calories burned is already included into your daily calories so you'd already be eating them back at 1400 per day. If that's your BMR then you'll want to log and eat about 50-75% of those calories back because MFP overestimates calories burned.

well done to you - that's great work!

I have a trainer once a week and its mainly heavy weight full body compound moves, TRX etc with very little rest.

I use a heart rate monitor and its normally around the 500/550 cal mark.

best way if you really want to log it is a HRM - its the best you can do.

sometimes I eat the calories or some of the calories back and sometimes I don't touch them depends on how I feel

Is your calorie goal incorporating your activity for the week? If it is then you can 1 or 2 things. You can not log your exercise, or you can log your exercise, if you are the type that wants to see that in your log, and then change the burn to 1 calorie so it doesn't mess with your calorie count.

If your calorie goal doesn't include your activity burn then you should either log your activity and eat back your calories because working out with a trainer 3x a week is a lot of work and you need to fuel your body, or recalculate your daily calorie goal to include your a weekly activity.....I'd say moderate activity level.

My 1410 calorie goal is based on the info i entered when I registered (sedentary lifestyle) so won't include any exercise. you've just answered my question as to wether I should be eating my calories earned through exercise. will start logging it from today.

    thank you!
