To eat or not to eat...

I am wondering about IF, specifically skipping breakfast and I am wondering if anyone has done this and has had any luck.

I have always been a breakfast person but think I need to make some changes to my eating routine at this point. I am finding that even though I eat a healthy breakfast with plenty of protein, it seems to make me hungrier as the day goes on. I find that when I skip breakfast my appetite comes and goes and I get full quickly during my other meals (lunch/snacks/dinner). I also find that I am hungriest in the evening whereas when I fast all morning I eat less later on. I don't know if my metabolism is just not waking up but I know that I eat less calories overall throughout the day with the absence of breakfast.

I know there is no scientific proof that eating breakfast or not eating breakfast is helpful or harmful and everyone is different.

I would just like to know what others feel about this. Or if there are others who skip breakfast and find their overall calorie intake smaller.

Thanks

it has nothing to do with your metabolism waking up, its mostly a mental thing.

i do IF, i dont eat until around 12 most days, and stop eating around 6. i find it helps immensely with cutting down snacking and makes it really easy to stay within a calorie goal. the way i think about it is the longer you wait in the morning to eat, the more calories you have for eating at night, so your less likely to overeat at supper or go over because of snacking infront of the TV (which were my 2 main issues)

i would recommend everyone try IF at least for a couple weeks, its not for everyone but it makes a huge difference for some, myself included. i can see myself sticking with it for the good majority of my life

    Thanks for the response.

Yes, I really like the idea of waiting until about noon time for lunch and then doing a light pre-workout snack and dinner after. I just feel as if I am eating/snacking way too much and I'd prefer to listen to my body and just eat when I feel hungry vs. trying to do the meals and snacks all day long. I know the metabolism thing is false and I don't agree about the tabu of eating before bed either.

    Thanks again!
I have started today and will go for a few weeks to see what happens.

Timing doesn't matter. All that matters is that you get the appropriate amount of calories per day.

Yes, exactly re timing. That's what I tell folks when they say they don't eat after a certain time. Sure, that applies to some people especially if a person has stomach issues, like my husband. If he eats after a certain time and goes to bed he gets stomach issues... But not me. I could literally eat dinner in bed and fall asleep immediately after. I have never had a problem with digestion or any sort of weight gain because of it. Although I don't prefer to go to bed with a full stomach... I find that I get a better nights sleep if I am just satisfied if not slightly hungry/empty.

Anyway, today was day one of IF for me and I have to say I am loving it so far. What a difference. Usually I am hungry to the point of ravenous for a good part of the day and by now I am scrounging for healthy snacks. But right now, aside from a greek yogurt snack that I had I have no appetite or cravings to speak of. I am looking forward to a healthy dinner after workout and not worrying about what I'll be snacking on later.
