Bad workout day.... Need some support.

I hate to whine or complain but I need some support. Yesterday I made it to the gym for my cardio day. I hit the elliptical hard to start but at about minute 15 something shifted and caused me to rack myself (Crushed a nut between my thighs. I know gross, sorry ladies!).... I tried to keep going but at about minute 20 I had to give up because I was afraid to throw up all over the elliptical machine. My stomach cramped up and I just could barely breath. It just didn't feel like my day.

I know I should be proud that I made it to the gym, I am completely pissed off that I didn't stick out the workout and finish it. I also know I should let it go and hit it double hard tonight. I didn't go over my calories and I had a great workout on Sunday... Just my Monday work out was complete and utter crap...

I'm not looking for much more than some encouragement. Rough workouts happen but how you bounce back from the bad workout is what matters right?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm not in any pain today... Yesterday was excruciating when I had to stop.

Well, I don't have balls so I don't know just how excruciating the pain was, but I have a pretty good imagination--and you tried to keep going. You get beast points for that. So even if you didn't finish the workout (because you're smart and didn't want to puke in the gym), be proud.

Just don't do that to yourself again!

Crushing your nut is an acceptable excuse. Carry on.

Lol! Let's see....encouragement... not really my strong suit, but how about this.... You are 37 and let's say you keep working out until you are 80.... that's about 2,236 weeks of working out and even if you only work out three times a week, that's 6,708 workouts left for you to do.... don't sweat one bad one...

meh- put some ice on it, you'll be fine....... Seriously, don't sweat it. This weight loss venture is a marathon of sorts, not a sprint. There will be good days and bad days. the important thing is continue making progress. Don't burn out.

    It happens.

Crushing one's testicals is an acceptable reason to call it a day. I tend to look at each workout as a lego block- yes they interlock- but they represent a singular event- that doesn't not impact the next workout- don't like them mentally- each day you step in to the work- it's a new moment. Be okay with that. The blocks get built by showing up each time-but they don't all have to be fabulous and fancy- they just need to have happened.

Seriously. that was some significant trauma. Just let it go. Show up next time and crush the work out not your nuts.

    You're totally fine.

I knew a guy who pinched himself between two 45lb dumbbells doing lateral raises. She seems to be okay now.

Testicle injuries are like other injuries, but worse. I don't see any shame in taking a break after that.

Thing is - you went to the gym.

    Granted - you had a not-so-good experience..............

Now - you gotta go to the gym today.

    And tomorrow.

Many years ago I fainted at my gym.

Yes, it was embarrassing - but it didn't stop me from going.

    Don't let this stop you.

Sorry to hear about your junk. I think you should get started up again and continue on like you killed your workout yesterday and let it be. And whatever you were doing when you um, shall we say...injured yourself, for goodness sake don't do that again!

I always worry about that happening to me. There have been times I would get extremely faint. The last time it happened it seemed like I was going blind and wanted to throw up.

When I have a bad workout day I just generally remember the saying that no matter how little you do, you're still lapping everyone on the couch!

It's not the end of the world, just keep doing what you're doing and move on from the hiccup! :)

Not much to say unfortunately, bad workouts happen. Keep your goals in-mind and just keep doing stuff that gets you to your goals. You'll have bad days, average days, and days when you might set a new personal record for time or distance. Take the good with the bad and keep at it.
  • Nothing greatt that was built didn't have its own set backs and bumps in the road. Your diet is more important anyway. As long as you are keeping it on point, losing a workout, or having a bad one won't hurt anything. Listening to your body is far more important then "going hard" in the gym.

    Something I live by,

"Make goals, and take the path to get there. Nothing ever goes as planned, but finding guidance and support allows for mistakes. No path is without its imperfections. Use those imperfections. Learning from them, and push yourself forward to new hieghts. One day you will look back...and you know what? You will only remember the imperfections, they will be your happy memories, and your stories for years to come."

You just go work out the next day. Your recovery cycle from previous workouts doesn't always match your calendar workout schedule and you try to put on a new load when the body just isn't ready for it.

In your case, you don't even have that problem, since it was an acute injury.

I understand that you want to feel committed to the workout, so I don't want to dismiss your negative feelings about stopping early.

But, from a pure physical standpoint, stopping a workout early because you had an injury is not only smart, but has absolutely zero negative effect.

    That made me laugh.

Stryder77, you always inspire me. Dude - you went to the gym. Do you know how many times I intend to work out and don't? Most times! Ever hear this song by Adelitas Way? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4YbPaa5E1I

I wish I had your commitment.

you seem to feel better already, but i'll just chime in anyway. i've been bike commuting for i dunno, maybe 10 years, off and on . . . and started lifting maybe 5 months ago from a completely flat start. and honestly, really, the real inner me is a couch potato who just wants to read books all the time. the biking comes and goes depending on logistics and where i'm working, so i've had several cycles of starting the whole thing all over again.

what i've found out over the course of those years is that some days just suck, and that's all that it is. there can be all kinds of reasons for it, and not all of them are within my control. there's such hopes that you can get of this whole workout thing. but i found out that disappointment is just another part of the turf on some days, along with things like wind and rain and flat tires and body parts that don't wanna . . . it's not all beer and skittles and feeling like you could bench-press a bear.

and for myself, i found that it's much easier for me to deal with those days if i do classify 'disappointment' with those same physical things. then it becomes just another thing for me to adjust to, incorporate and keep on going . . . i found that this way i don't let it define me or my whole 'workout' experience, and that helps. and over the long haul, my impression is that out of every 5 days of doing physical stuff, one day will suck, three days will be fine, and one will be awesome past all my craziest hopes.

it evens out, and then it gets to be part of your life like your family are. but only if you keep doing it. and don't forget: it takes balls to go do it at all ;-)

the women's version of that is a mammogram scan.
