My best friend in the world is 5'4", weighs 163 lbs, making her BMI: 28. I worry greatly for her because she has a heart-condition and had 2 open heart surgeries. With her heart, she is not supposed to do any strenuous activity. It is very unhealthy for her to be overweight and could be life threatening to her. I try and help her when we are together, but being at college 3 hours away from her I can only give her advise. I know she doesn't have the time to walk constantly because she has classes and homework, but she needs something. any advise?

My wife has lost 42 lbs, and is within 3 lbs of her goal weight. She lost most of that weight by eating healthy. She does some excersise, but nothing more strenous than Wii Fit, or walking.

80% of being healthy is nutrition. Excersise is important in an ideal world. But if you have limited recourses such as money and time...put those recourses into eating properly.

However, someone has to want to change themselves before you can help them. Just tell her how you feel. The rest is up to her.
  • Thank you so much! Hope all goes well with your weight loss :)

Does your friend have the motivation to lose weight? That's the first question.

When I first started working out I used my Wii Fit and I LOVED it. I burned calories but I never felt strained. And it's really fun :)
  • she has motivation to lose weight, BUT when she doesn't see results she just goes back to kind of eating all day out of boredom and stress :/
