Eating bread while maintaining calorie limits?

Hi all! I'm a huge bread-lover, and there is no way that I would trade my bread for sth more healthy :D So, I maintain 1200cal diet, and I eat veggies, so I have plenty of cals left for my bread. I loove rye bread w/ garlic, so I ate around 200g of it, and in the end I still managed to meet my calorie goal. The question is whether bread per se leads to weight gain? I though that the theory (and practice lol) was that I could "spend" 1200cals in the way I like, even eating sweets, and still I would lose weight. I understand that a calorie is a calorie, I just want some answers regarding food havily loaded w/ carbs. If I stick to high-carb diet, it would be just as efficient as low-carb?

No, bread won't inherently make you gain weight. The only issues I can think of that may come up are:

    1) Bread may lead to you to overindulge, so be sure you are conscious and honest about your logging of it, and
    2) Going way high on bread consumption could possibly cause you to neglect your protein consumption, which could affect your lean muscle mass - so be aware of getting enough protein in your diet.

But generally speaking, yeah, a calorie is a calorie in regards to weight loss.

Thanks, I was secretly hoping to hear that :) As to protein, it turned out that I have some issues w/ it, so I have to rely more on carbs (that raise my energy levels.) I eat healthy fats though (nuts, avocado now and then.) I am honest w/ myself, I have some 5lbs to lose, and it's sooo hard. I am 123 lbs, I aim for 118, if I ever reach it...
