Your hair is beautiful.0

Hi .
Not only is your hair very long, it is also in beautiful condition and a lovely colour. Just keep the ends neat. From my point of view, I would say not to cut it - it's too beautiful and it suits you. Lovely long hair like yours is very rare. You can do a million styles with it as well. I am 50 with long hair. In theory, that is too old. In practice, I won't cut it unless the condition goes completely.0 -
Now I want to listen to the soundtrack to hair. "I love my hair. Grow it. Show it."0
-
I had hair down to my bum. I had it cut off recently to just below my shoulders. I liked it to start with but now I miss it. I'm not going to grow it as long but am definitely want to grow it again0

i guess i'm outside the norm. i'd say cut it. cut it short - like above the shoulders. your hair is beautiful. to me, though, long hair signifies an abundance of time. i don't have the patience for long hair - never mind super long hair like yours. short hair is SO easy.
but, having said that, if you like it long and the time it may or may not take you for upkeep (washing, styling, etc), and the feeling of it down your back and around your face doesn't bother you - keep it! to hell with what i or others think.0 -
I say do whatever you feel is best for you. I get bored easily and tend to cut mine all off, I go from one extreme to the next. Only thing I can never seem to part with is my dark hair. It's my natural color minus a few random reds that I have naturally in which that's the only reason I dye my hair so I have all one color lol. I've been thinking it's time for a cut myself here soon.0

We just need something to pull on... wink wink0

Whoop! A long hair thread! I feel like girls with extremely long hair are getting increasingly rare in my neck of the woods. I also have really long hair that's almost past my butt, so it's nice to hear that there are other people who are like me! Personally, as long as the hair is healthy, keep it growing! C:
Funny thing is, the longer I grow my hair, the more random strangers come up to me and touch my hair. o_O
Edit: I should probably explain that I did cut my hair into a lot of layers because my hair is super thick. You could say that I have a toned down version of the choppy layers scene kids had in high school, but mine are definitely more graduated and blended in. It really helps with getting some volume near my face! Otherwise, my longest layers are still at my butt.0 -
If you're somebody who can maintain it by means of regular cuts, thorough washes and having it not be a distraction to your work hygienically then I don't think there is a limit to length in regards to a general situation. However that being said it's true that the older we get the less common/recommended it is to have extremely long hair as it's known to age us. Just my opinion. Hope it helps0
-
My hair is about the length of yours. The only times I think it's too long is when I close it in the car door, or bend down to put the laundry in the machine and stuff my hair in with it. I know I'd instantly regret it if I ever cut it, though. Love my hair.0

Not necessarily. I know women in their 60s and 70s with very long hair (as long as OP's) who look beautiful. It all depends on your face and bone structure and how you maintain your hair.0 -
I'd say keep it! Your hair looks lovely.
Definately a fan of long hair. The only time that I consider cutting mine is when I shut it in my car door - that hurts!0 -
I have always had very short hair-because I'm very lazy and I can't deal with the tangles.
I think the only time long hair is an issue is if it isn't well maintained. But your hair is gorgeous and well kempt, so I don't see any issues.0 -

Just the opposite. Long hair is easier and cheaper to maintain than short hair. No styling, no trips to the hairdresser, no fancy gels and styling products needed. It really is wash and go.
/// yes, I am a longhair. I trim it occasionally by myself and I only need to wash it twice a week. I keep it long because I don't have the time to deal with shorter hair.0 -
It's pretty but I can't personally stand my hair that long. Nothing wrong with a trim if that's all you're up for. I usually go about an inch shorter than i think I should because I know it'll grow out pretty quickly and I'm too low maintenance to go the hair dresser every couple months.
Once it gets down to my shoulder blades, and so is to the point where it gets in the way of movement or gets stuck in my armpits or car window, and I have to wear it up constantly, it's time for a major chopping. Plus I don't think it's flattering on me anymore. Not sure if it's the weight loss or aging but I can't seem to pull it off anymore.
I've grown my hair out three times now to donate and am considering doing it again but that's the only thing that would bring me to grow my hair that long again. The little bit of frustration I have to deal with is nothing compared to the struggles of the women who get the wigs that my hair is part of.0 -
You have really gorgeous hair...but it is YOUR hair, so you should do what you like! Don't put too much stock in others' opinions.
I have really short hair now as you can see from my photo, but I've had it every length over the years, including waist-length, and enjoyed each style a lot. I like how there are different styles of clothing & accessories that work with various hair lengths.
As for the "how long is too long?" question -- the only reason I could see that you would probably want to trim a FEW inches off (assuming you enjoy your long hair!) is if you have some split ends around the bottom (I can't tell, it looks great) or if you were interviewing for jobs in a professional realm and just wanted it to look a bit tidy and less of the flowing Rapunzel thing. But I still think VERY long hair can look quite professional as long as it's clean and well maintained. Personally, I think it looks kind of bad when women have hair that is similar to yours in length, but then down at the very bottom there are some random loooong scraggly pieces hanging down and very thin. I think most times I see that, the woman has religious reasons for never cutting her hair but it's just not a good look IMHO.0 -
thanks for the response, my hair is very very thick and naturally wavey I have straightened it in the above picture lol, I definately would not go drastic and cut it all off but a trim would be an idea as its getting a bit wispy on the ends, what do you think of layering I always think long hair looks better all one length personally
I tend to agree with you, especially for hair that is very thick like yours. A lot of times when women with really long hair start layering it, they wind up going shorter unintentionally over time. That happened to me before in the past. I think the other long hair girl who posted very early on is right about going with 3" off or even 6" or so...it would probably feel very different to you, and fresher, but not look that different!0 -

Again -- this is very individual. Some people have an easier time with short hair, others with long.
My hair is naturally curly and not very thick, so I wash, mousse, pick, let dry -- long or short, it's exactly the same for me.
But I don't like my face when my hair is shorter and I kind of romanticize my long hair, so I haven't cut it in two years (that photo is about 18 months old). I cut it pretty short to donate it the last time I had it cut, but I'm letting it grow now and don't plan to cut it any time soon.0 -
it's preference but I usually think anything longer than mid back is too long for me, but to each their own, you just have to do what makes you happy.0

I agree. My hair is a bit shorter than my profile pic right now, a true "pixie cut" and I MUST wash it daily and put in product or it would look nuts. It is definitely not 'wash n' go'. When my hair is chin-length or longer, I do not have to wash it daily or use anything aside from shine serum. BUT I have to blow it dry no matter what, even when it's the length (SHORT) in my profile pic...or, because it's so thick, it won't be totally dry until 1 pm if I wash it in the morning and try to air dry.
I have heard a lot of people say short hair is easier for them, but for me it's really not. I do like it best on my face type though and I feel more feminine, oddly, with short hair. The #1 reason I like short hair is because with long hair I always wind up putting it up or clipping it back, and for every 1 "great hair day" with long hair there are 4-5 days where I just wanna chop it. LOL With short hair it just always looks okay, so I'm cool with that. Even though I'm getting older I would totally grow my hair very long if I thought I could handle keeping it DOWN rather than constantly going into a clip, bun, braid, etc.0 -

I have a friend with a pixie and it's super short and she pretty much doesn't do anything with it. I could NOT pull off a pixie! I don't have the bone structure for it.0 -
I thought you meant like "my toddler's hair" or "what do guys think..."
For me the first answer I had was "to the butt." I have always been grossed out by thinking that when that lady sits down on a public toilet that her hair is getting backsplash from the toilet. It only gets worse as it gets longer.
Religious long hair I see quite often and never think it looks well cared for - this may be because they don't spend much time on it, I really don't know.
My question is: Do you leave your hair down to blow around or are you more like my mom with 2 styles: Pony and Braid.... If you pony and/or braid then what's the point?
My husband thinks short hair is "easy" or "cheating" but some styles need just as much time/care as long hair. He's actually had longer hair than I did it some point.
I like being able to pull my hair into a pony though, so I need some length. Also I have a tattoo on the back of my neck so now that it's longer I don't need to wear collared shirts or scarves to "hide" it.
My hair has never been wash and go - it's freaking Texas....0 -
