Not even coming close to calorie intake

The calorie intake goal that mfp provides, is that what we "should" be eating, or the "maximum" that we can eat? Because I'm not even coming close. :[ I work 10 hours overnight as a caretaker, and just don't eat except the occasional dried cranberry. Today I've had cottage cheese w/ yogurt, a salad, some "naked" shake, and a few cheetos. That just doesn't even come close to the 1400 calories that mfp recommends, and my main problem is that I am just NOT hungry enough. What I've eaten today makes me feel full, close to being sick, and I've stayed within recommended serving size. Anyone have any advice for me? I would appreciate any, and all comments. :]

almonds, nuts, eat a sandwich instead of a salad. add more veggies or meat to your salad. snack more on fruits and veggies.0

It's what you should be eating.
When I started here I was eating 400-700 calories a day. It was hard for me to eat 2-3 times that amount but I knew I had to. I added a little extra food to each meal and tried to work in snacks. I gradually added in more food until I was meeting my goal. Some people recommend eating calorie dense foods, but I didn't go that route. It seems that most calorie dense foods are also high in fat. It only took about a week of adding in more food until my body adjusted to eating the right amount.0 -

You can actually do lots of damage to your weight loss goals and your body if you don't eat enough. Some days I eat 1400 calories, other days I eat 800-900 calories. The key is I always eat a minimum of 5 fruits and vegies a day--no matter what. Take some snacky stuff with you like nuts, apples, crackers, cheese, carrot sticks, etc. and nibble throughout the day to up your calorie intake.0

Thanks everyone for the advice! I do have pecans/cashews and dried cranberries and dried cherries to take to work with me, but I just don't ever eat them.
