Why does existence have to have a beginning and/or end?

And also, assuming an entirely natural world would any beginning or end have a predetermined/predictable beginning and end or do the choices afforded by life affect existence so as to make any prediction unreliable?

Without a beginning would there be an end?

Obviously you need life to perceive existence, so I'll take that easy comment/answer out of the discussion.

Ask the guy riding a bike towards us on another end of the observable universe. He knows how this thread will end.

How can we know that it has a beginning or an end?

No. Your premise is entirely incorrect. The universe is basically like an incredibly super-massive cat. With windows. And a clock strapped to its beak. Oh, sorry did I not say? It has a beak. It's like a kind of bird-cat. And it's round. I hope that helps clarify things for you.

I always saw the universe as more duck like. I feel that you are horribly mistaken.

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only change.

    Big who cares!?

If questions like these are what keep you up at night, then your existence would be futile.

Existence is like sex. With no end, there would be only chafing.

Because that's what makes it valuable.

    Very good answer.
  • Maybe there isn't a beginning/end. Only what you perceive to be a beginning and end.

When the sun blows up, the world will end.

    The end.

Technically incorrect. The earth will be consumed by the sun during its expansionary period before it blows up.

Oh and the answer is 42.
