I just had the surgery last week. I had terrible batwings after my weight loss, and they actually prevented me from being able to wear properly sized shirts. It cost approximately $5000 and is not covered by insurance. It has not been all that bad, although I do have an area that's irritated, so I have to keep it covered (a band-aid does nicely). I'd heard horror stories of not being able to wash your own hair or lift your arms. I've had none of that. I washed my own hair on the second day after surgery, and have pretty much been able to attend to my own needs since the second day after surgery (although it is VERY nice to have my hubby around to help and to keep me from lifting anything too heavy). I'm sleeping in a recliner, since I'm a side sleeper and lying on my side is pretty sore. I've been off the pain meds since the second day, and now just take Advil when things get sore.

As for exercise, I'm walking as much as I can (and have been since day 4 after surgery). Doc told me to wait a couple more weeks before I start lifting again. He wants the incisions to be closed before I lift again.

Any other questions, let me know :)

I had liposuction of both arms on July 28th. It is progressing really well and I can see that I will be pleased. I had flabby arms after weight loss in 2012, but after working it out the entire 2013, I got fedup and went for lipo. I did this in Trinidad so cost would not matter to you but it was pretty costly here. I was desperate because my arms did not fit my new body size and had problems with certain blouses/dresses with sleeves that won't go up my arms although they'd fit my body. Anyway, I am still wearing the compression garment and already reduced the size to compress more. I just have a little bruising to go before I can wear sleeveless. I'm being very patient with it because I am seeing very good progress. I don't mind being limited to wearing 3/4 sleeves for now. I started light arm exercises only this week. Today is the 17th day since surgery.

By the way, I have cellulite, kinda saggy inner thighs also but opted not to do lipo because they say my inner thigh will sag more. Also I am not doing leg lift because there are too many risks involved. Just thought I'd add this bit....although the topic is Arm surgery...lol!

Can I ask what you both weighed when you had your surgery? Were you completely at goal or almost there? I have about 10 more pounds to go. I have lost about 196 pounds total. I can relate to not being able to find shirts, I never buy summer shirts because the arms are so small. Thank you both for your story. I see myself having the surgery early next year. I just dropped the last 60 this year and want to give my body a moment to adjust.

I was about 170 right before surgery (two weeks ago), within 20 pounds of my goal weight, and I lost about 160 pounds total. At the same time I had a tummy tuck, so my recovery was not purely based on the arms, but I can tell you that they were basically a breeze for me. I did have someone around helping me, because I had both surgeries, but I've been able to use them as I normally would (excluding any heavy lifting) and have been extremely pleased with how they look so far. The scars still have some dry, patchy areas on them, which should be gone in another 1-2 weeks, and the rest is very straight and attractive so far. The arms were around 4,000.

It really has been a life-changing experience.

Edited to add in weight before surgery.
