Hello all!
I just bought my first HRM not toolong ago and have been using it... but one thing! it is pretty close to mfp after i log my 6 mile run... but....
today i didnt run. but lifted for the first time i got it. My HRM said i burned 436 calories in 66 min??? is that possible? mfp says it should have been around 200.... which do i trust?
ANd i mean i was sweating a little... but nothing like my 6 miles runs where i burn about 600 calories

do you have a Garmin that you can download and see the whole workout on a graph? If you do, you can look at the graph and see how your rate was spiking.
You can make sure to wear it next time you lift and see how it reacts too.
also, you can burn more calories running slow and then sprinting -- doing only 3 miles than you can just jogging 6 miles --- look up Dr. Mercola and heart rates.0 -
I trust my HRM. You got to realize that what you put in by MFP might be from someone of a different weight than you.0

hmm i have a pink polar one ill have to look it up
Oooh will have to check out thoserates too, thing is with my running is though that i prefer distance becasue I am working on my 10k times :] i do circuit training and intervals in my fitness class ^-^0 -
MFP can actually be very off.
400 cals in 60 minutes is believable to me. I burn 400 in 40 minutes doing a fitness dvd with my heart rate monitor on. Also, your hrm is monitoring your heart rate, so it would be more accurate than mfp no matter what. If anything i always hope that my hrm is under-estimating my cals.0 -
If you're not used to weight lifting or incorporate cardio into it than yeah- it can be a big burn! I'd trust it!0

I have the pink polar f6 too. :-)0

Hmm definately not used to weight training... so tedious. so that could be it! Not new to cardio by any means haha
just worries me that i am going to over estimate!0 -
A little off topic but-- I saw a post a few days ago about HRM. From what I read the HRM does not factor in your BMR that mfp already includes. So, when i figured it out for me, i burn about 30 calories an hour doing nothing (bmr) so i subtract that 30 from my HRM amount when i work out so that I am not counting the same calories twice, its a small amount, but for those who eat their exorcise calories, I think it is an important note.0

That's what I have (not pink...it's black for all you smart *kitten*)...LOL
I totally trust it.
I burn anywhere from 400 -700 calories weight lifting. The more legs or compound exercises I do the bigger the burn.0 -
I also subtract my BMR for the minutes I worked out. And when I do a training session I easily burn 400-500 calories in a 45 minute period per the HRM. I would trust your HRM.0
