Sugar?! HELP!

Does anyone know what the deal is with sugar? I added it to tracking and found that I often triple the recommended amount! Most of the sugar I have is 'natural' ie. in fruit and at this point in my journey is highly necessary as it's stopping me from attacking the confectionary aisle at the supermarket, but will this hinder my weight loss dramatically??? My calories, fat, carbs, sodium and protein are fine (most of the time - I sometimes go over on the protein), but the 30g of sugar????

Replies

  • instead of the sugar.. eat a piece of pineapple.. it will kill the chemical in your brain that craves it
  • I have the same issue. I'm over on sugar and sodium every SINGLE day, and I'm not eating foods loaded with sugar, either.

Listen: you can't drive yourself crazy doing low-cal, low-carb, low-fat, and low-sodium all at once (I'm sure someone on here will disagree! LOL).

But honestly: do what you can, make small changes, be sure to exercise and get enough water, and you'll see results. If you try to take all of it on at once, you'll go nuts.

If you're always going over on sugar, let the focus be on your fat and cals then.

Just my opinion. Lost 5 pounds in two weeks, so must be doing something right!
  • but...pineapple (along with every other kind of fruit) has sugar. and lots of it. i always go over in sugar too because i eat so much fruit.

I swear I have the exact problem. I just figured that I was intaking good sugars and I wouldn't worry about it. Unfortunately that was just an assumption and I'm not sure what should be done, if anything. Anyone have any ideas?

You don't count sugar in fruit, milk, veggies, etc. It's natural. You only worry about added sugars, like those candy, pastries, barbecue sauce, ketchup, etc. etc. etc.

I don't eat sugar unless it is natural form. All processed sugar is off my list. In fact I limit natural sugar too. I don't eat melons, pineapple, carrots, corn, or bananas. Too much sugar!

I only focus on my calories. It seems to be working pretty good...

Yeah I went waaay way over today on sugar, but a lot of it was from a clementine, banana and my pepperidge farm whole grain oatmeal bread.. so idk. I don't worry about it TOO much.

I personally prefer to eat my fruit earlier in the day, because they're high in sugar (even though they're natural), and get my veggies in in the evening. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thank you - I wanted to make sure I'm not sabotaging myself inadvertently, but I do have a habit of trying to do everything at once and it being too overwhelming and unsustainable (and then off the wagon I fall...), but it's good to know that other people are in the same situation and are still continuing to lose weight. Thank you!

If the sugar is coming from fruit ...don't worry about it. It's the sugar you ADD to things to worry about not the natural sugars already in the food.

All sugars from fresh fruit are fine but say you ate a can of peaches in heavy syrup...not fine.

I am watching my sugar too but I minus those numbers that come from fruit ...so when I'm in the red ...im not really in the red :)
