Food on the MFP Database

We use metric in Australia and I have no trouble converting ounces (oz) into grams when I am adding food to my diary - recent one was homemade pulled pork (thanks Amazingribs !), all references were in ozs (it is American !) but this was not a problem, same with the sauces as the bar-codes were recognised and I converted the quantities along the same lines. My thanks to the people who add these items to the database as it makes life very easy.

What I find really annoying are the measurements "PLATE", "MEAL" or "CONTAINER" to name a few that I have come across. I cannot find any reference to these on my converter app (joke Joyce !) so they are totally useless. They may make sense to a particular country or region but whoever added these did not bother to put this info in.

If MFP administrators see this it may be a good time to purge the database of these useless "measurements" to save frustration and space.

What do the rest of you think ?

I agree, "heaping teaspoon" isn't very helpful either. When ever I see it and I can change it I do. Unless it is an actual standard unit of measurement it should be binned. I can't stand ounces either mind you. Grams or go home. :)

I'm also a stickler for accuracy and I prefer grams as well. In fact, I'll create my own database entries if it's cups to grams for my dry goods, like for cheeses and oatmeal. I find it easier when you need an arbitrary amount of something and you don't have to figure that out in cups to serving.. Grams all the way.

While I agree with you overall, this really makes no sense. Typically if someone says one plate or one meal, it's a restaurant plate, or some packaged food, and the calories are only specific to that restaurant/food anyway, so why would it even affect you? I find it useful if I order something from Applebee's to find the calorie information for the plate I ordered.
