Travelling the world...gained 14 lbs back :( help

Hi everyone,

I joined My Fitness Pal about two years ago and lost about 42 lbs in total! I felt amazing about myself, having spent the first 23 years of my life constantly overweight.

I am currently on my honeymoon of a lifetime travelling around the world. We spent 2 months in South East Asia and I managed to pretty much maintain my goal weight while there... but the last few months of the trip have been a roadtrip across America and I have indulged in too much of the local cheese and bread heavy dishes! It's completely my own fault, but I weighed myself a couple of days ago and I have gained about 14 lbs. On the one hand, this is the trip of a lifetime and I don't want to ruin it by worrying about my weight... but I am also really upset with myself for ruining my years of hard work!

I'm not going to waste time crying about it - we have 6 weeks left and I'm determined to make some changes so I don't look and feel terrible when I go back to normal life. I lost my weight by sticking to a 1200 a day, low carb diet but I don't think that will be realistic here.

Can anyone give me guidance as to how many calories I should aim for a day to get back? I'm feeling terrible about myself but don't know how to get it back on track :(

 So sorry visiting America is causing you to gain weight. But well...what did you expect? We're infamous for our tasty and very substantial dishes.

Therein lies the key. Cut everything in half and save it for later or better yet split it with your lovely new partner in life. Bonus if you hop online before you go somewhere to get calorie counts and decide on what you will order in advance. Many places do provide the info online.

Try to do maintenance level and enjoy your trip. As you said it's once in a lifetime!

I travel a lot and just try to maintain. It is so hard in America. There is tasty food EVERYWHERE tempting the weary traveler. Do you run and hike? Maybe up the exercise and get to know this country by way of her running paths and trails. I just spent a few days in seattle running up and down the hills. Made up for some of the beer and salmon, I'm sure.

Lose the weight when you get home.

I think you should just eat at maintenance. If you're not logging, you won't know what that is, so I agree with eating half of your meals and saving the rest for another day, or splitting a meal with your honey.

I will be traveling to Ireland in three weeks and am hoping to eat at maintenance like I have been for the last several months. We'll see.

Just enjoy your trip then do whatever you did before to lose the weight. You've done it once, so why not again?

^this. What lovely advice!! Also, like Wheird said, you could just continue to enjoy your travels and get back at it when you get settled again. <3
