Food in China HELP

Hi all,

I'm planning on moving to China for 9 months. I'm worried that while there I won't be as informed about what's going in my stomach and will gain weight. Also I've heard a lot of the food there is fried..is this right? Also rice is a staple food and everytime i eat rice I bloat like crazy, really painful.

Any helpful tips from someone who has already been there about keeping my weight in check. I have been slowly but surely losing weight but worried about gain.

Also anybody in the Hangzhou region, i'm curious about cost of living, if you could enlighten me

In my experience, there is plenty of opportunity to eat far healthier than in the US or even most of Europe. Vegetables form a far larger part of the diet, supplemented by small amounts of protein. Rice accompanies most meals, but it's perfectly possible to eat small amounts. And I particularly like the various noodle soups you can get. Yummy.

I love trips to China because the food is sooo good. Tasty, lots of variety and generally healthier. Enjoy it.

You might see more noodle and dumpling dishes than rice. They probably have baked chicken, fish, crab, and other seafood, bamboo shoots, bok choy, rape (type of cabbage). Also tangerines, ginkgo nuts, loquats, pomegranates.

I stayed in Malaysia and Singapore for 2 months and by eating the food there (rice, vegies, small bits of meat, noodles) I felt healthier and you loose weight! My sister was a bit chubby and she moved over there, the thing was that she was eating lots but because the food has not much fat + the heat she lost quiet abit of fat. China will be the same, theres not much fat people in China I bet you :)
