Hi. Been on here only a couple of days: detemined to make it all work - see profile, but I have a question about the Daily Goals.
The carbs/fat/protein and overall calories thing I get, but which is the sodium target so high?
I have tried to reduce my salt intake - unavoidable when getting some recipes right I know, but still..........
IS the sodium intake THAT important?

The sodium number is the max you should get each day, unless you have some medical condition. Most people don't have issues with too much sodium so getting 4,000 - 6,000 mg a day isn't a big deal. For people with blood pressure issues, either high or low, they need to keep it in check.
This might explain it better than I did: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002415.htm0 -
Be aware that processed foods have a lot of sodium and sugar added. Avoiding processed foods as much as possible will help quite a bit. Plus, all the additives and preservatives (words I can not pronounce) are not really good for us.0

Where I normally get in trouble with sodium is eating out or eating processed foods. The research on sodium is still moving a bit so I do not focus too much on that particular part of my diet.0

For me, if I get too much, I tend to retain water, so I watch it only for that purpose.0

Thanks all for the advice. Know what is being said about processed foods - avoided them for several years because of late wife's diet needs. Try to buy and eat fresh as much as possible - for me recently its just been all the crisps and sweets - and BREAD in between mealtimes.
But it makes a bit more sense now. Thanks again!!0
