Feel bad when talking about your weight loss/progress?

Most of my family is overweight, and I always feel guilty when talking about how much I've lost/how well I'm doing. How do you handle this? My friends and close coworkers are also overweight, so I have the same problem there. But I really just want to tell the whole world how well I'm doing and how much I've lost... Solutions for this?

If they've commented on your improved appearance or asked how you're doing, tell them how wonderful you feel now & how much you've lost.
If you're explaining why you're going to be late to the picnic ("I have to do my workout first"), mention it.
If you're trying to get compliments or change what they do in their own life, stop. You're not going to change them.
Perhaps by being a more attractive, active, vivacious, healthy, fit, happy person you'll inspire them to make themselves better.

I guarantee that when you get closer to your goal they _will_ notice how much you've changed.
  • Thanks! Not trying to get compliments or change their lifestyle at all, I just realized I may be coming across as that. Really the truth is I am just SO excited with my progress that I can't keep my mouth shut about it. I'm going to try and be much more aware of this with other people.

I can relate, feeling very positive about my progress and how well things are working out for me at the moment. Sometimes I sound like a walking commercial. Need to watch that,.. not everyone wants to be converted. :flowerforyou:

I try not to really talk about it. Around the office, people know that if I come back to the office with chinese food from a certain restaurant, that it means I've gone to weigh in. If they want to ask how I'm doing or what happened, they're welcome.

There is one girl at work who's obese that she's a bit behind me with the mental groove aspect of it. She's having issue with success and trying to find her way too. There are times when she asks what I'm doing and I'll make suggestions, then I get "the look." of "Yeah right- like I'm going to do that! HA!" I don't feel like I'm being pushy, but I make sure to back off just in case and I'll start trying to find out where she's really at.

There are others who are further along in their journey, and we usually tease about "Hey - only 500 more steps, and I'll hit another 1000...." and we'll try to race each other around the office to pick up those extra steps.

There's really no reason why you should feel bad about your success. You should be proud of your success. Just realize that sometimes others aren't where you're at....
