Let's Talk About Medicine/Supplements

So, I'm not even 40, and I take a handful of "stuff" each day. And I know those who take even more than I do. What are your thoughts? Or what are you taking?

Me:
1 Zyrtec - so I can breathe daily - doesn't really help
1 Zantac - so heartburn doesn't cause mucous clog up in my throat - really helps
1 Linzess - stool softener - my doctor said it's not a laxative, I think he is wrong
1 Diclosamine - misspelled I think - given to me because they don't really know what is wrong, but its not my appendix!
1 magnesium - I should probably stop taking this since I have the Linzess?
1 B12 - sublingual
1 omega 3-6-9 flax oil - cause it's good for me?
1 multivitamin - chewable, because, why not?

oh, and usually 800 mg of ibuprofen, once or twice a day, almost every day - yes, it hurts that bad - I'm trying to wean off of it - haven't taken any so far today!

I've read that the ibuprofen can stall weight loss - any input on that?

Do I need vitamin D?

First of all what is causing you to have to take pain meds every day? Not to be rude but usually when the pain is that bad docs prescribe something a bit stronger than ibuprofen. If you have some pain that demands you take ooc pain meds every single day then that needs to be addressed by your doctor.

Also instead of the antihistamines try taking a spoonful of raw unfiltered local honey. You can usually find local beekeepers who will sell it. It stopped my hay-fever dead. And I get i real bad.

Couldn't really comment on the rest.

I only take Vitamin D because blood tests show abnormally low levels year round. I also take a multivitamin and that's it. Everything else (like fish oil) I get naturally through food.

    Granted, I'm only 29.

Before I started weight loss I was taking antidepressants, pain killers, heart burn meds and migraine meds every day. I'm guessing that as you lose weight you'll need less of those medications.

I take a gazillion pills every day - most of the are supplements.

I take all of it because the doctor told me to.

I take zyrtec daily, multivitamin, and I should start up fish oil again, but I don't want to order it in the summer (I don't like to eat fish).

Considering you are on heartburn medications and stool softeners, it seems like your diet could use a change (if the problems are in fact diet related). You may want to try and identify problematic foods that cause the heart burn and eliminate those from your diet. In addition, make sure you are ingesting enough fiber, fat, and water for the stool issues.

ETA: I agree with talking to a doctor about daily pain. Also, you do not need vitamin D. Go stand outside for 10 minutes each day. If you have a health concern that makes you think you need vitamin D, you are probably already have a list of symptoms for your doctor.

If you are improving your diet: adding more vegetables and fruit and drinking more water for example, you could probably cut the stool softener and the multivitamin. But your body might be used to it so idk. Anyway I'm on a pretty hardcore med regime at the tender age of 22 so don't feel it makes you old! I'm on
    Seroquel
    Microgynon50 (aka the contraceptive pill)
    Effexor
    Lamotrogine
    Vimpat
    Zonisamide

Total cocktail and some are known weight gainers but you gotta take what your doc tells you.

The stool softer and diclosmine are more of "i don't know what wrong, so try this" medicines. I was in the ER last week cause I thought my appendix was going to rupture, and I had a busy weekend planned! I didn't want anything to ruin, or worse, be out of town and it happen. After Xray and CT Scan, they found nothing. Could be intestinal, could be stress, could be a cyst. Dunno. I have to schedule a colonoscopy soon. I'm dreading it though!

I take 650 ml of IB a day, so no I don't think it stalls weight loss, but why are you taking all the rest? I am your grand ma, and IB is all I take, no other medication. So what's up with all these pills, are you trying to support the Pharm industry single handidly?

Really trust me on the local unfiltered honey dude. Half a teaspoon a day will have your sinuses clear as a whistle within a week or two. Antihistamines suck.
