TOO MANY CALORIES

Myfitnesspal tells me I have to eat 1200 calories every day. I feel like this is a way too big amount of calories to loose weight. Am I wrong or right?

That's the minimum anyone should eat EVER.0

listen to what your body wants. 1200 is very tiny. I can pack away 1000 cals for lunch after gym (check my diary entry yesterday)

I ended up eating everything from No Nola to the laughing cow cheese in about an hour. Had it all as lunch, skipped breakfast.0 -
is you comment of the least anyone should ever eat based on "Net Calories"? or "Food Calories"?0

If you eat less than 1200 calories it sends your body into starvation mode and your body will hang onto every calorie. 1200 is the very minimum anyone should eat to provide adequate nutrition for your body to function properly.0

Way wrong, it is next to impossible to get the daily nutritional requirements on anything less than 1200 cals (how would you get all your vitamins and minerals, fiber, etc if you eat less than that small amount?)0

Be careful! You have to eat to lose weight and stay healthy! It sounds weird, but it's true!0

ok I will try and ask this more carefully by way of example
if MFP , based on my goals, suggests 1500 calories, and I eat 5, 300 calorie meals I would be fine. Now lets say that I exercise and I burn 500 calories on a run.
My question is do I need to eat an additional 200 calories minimum? therefore eating 1700 calories for the day?
thank you all...I love this site!0 -
Yes, you do need to eat those extra exercise calories. They're built into the MFP calculation -- otherwise, it would have the same starvation mode effect as not exercising and only eating 1200. There are a lot of helpful message board posts about this. As strange as it sounds, you really do have to eat what you burn (just not way more)!0

So what if the calorie hangs on to every calorie? At some time it will have no choice but to let go anyway.0

Just quoting this because you really need to read the links if you honestly think 1200 cals is too much to eat.
If you only read on of them read the last one. It will open your eyes to what you are doing wrong.0
