Colonic irrigation?

Considering a colonic. I have MS which means I don't...er...'move' well. Though that is one of my symptoms, it may not be for every MS sufferer. Anyway. Wondering would a colonic help me begin my weight loss journey?

Don't know about MS, but medical community consensus is that if anything, it only does more harm than good.

    Your body should clean itself.

Yes, but it's not going to be much weight loss, and the weight won't stay off. (Just like taking a laxative.)
As soon as you eat, your intestines will fill up again. That's what they're designed to do.
Unless you have a serious impaction, don't fiddle with introducing irrigation to your large intestine from the wrong end. (And if you do, let your doctor or her/his designee handle it, so it's done safely.)

If you're feeling stuck, so to speak, drink more water and eat more fiber.
Maybe try a glass of metamucil before bed for a week, see if it makes a difference. Can't hurt. (Or eat an apple, prunes, plums, figs, etc. for a bedtime snack.)
Exercise helps too, so keep doing that.

Thanks everyone. I already do all I can to help myself plus a few prescribed things too, and still I'm lucky if it's once a week. I know it won't make me lose fat but just thought a 'cleanse' might help with feeling better and thus make exercise and better eating easier.

If your bowel movement is slow, a colonic won't make any difference. Eat stuff like linseeds. Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. Do more exercise. Eat less junk food (I understand that can block you up a bit).
It won't affect your body fat.

Speak to your doctor about your movement issues. All colonic irrigation does is embarrass you and give someone some money

And that's if you're not unlucky. You can die as a result of a bowel perforation. The only person allowed to insert an object up my bottom is a qualified medic in a hospital.

It is actually worse than you think. Not only is it useless for weight loss, but also unless you have a serious impaction and need it done by a medical professional, frequent use of irrigation will make your constipation problem worse. In time you will not be able to move your bowels without them, not to mention what they would do to your bacterial flora. I will make it easier for you and quote this from Quackwatch for some more immediate health risks.

"colonic irrigation, which also can be expensive, has considerable potential for harm. The process can be very uncomfortable, since the presence of the tube can induce severe cramps and pain. If the equipment is not adequately sterilized between treatments, disease germs from one person's large intestine can be transmitted to others. Several outbreaks of serious infections have been reported, including one in which contaminated equipment caused amebiasis in 36 people, 6 of whom died following bowel perforation [7-9]. Cases of heart failure (from excessive fluid absorption into the bloodstream) and electrolyte imbalance have also been reported [10]. Direct rectal perforation has also been reported [11]. Yet no license or training is required to operate a colonic-irrigation device. In 1985, a California judge ruled that colonic irrigation is an invasive medical procedure that may not be performed by chiropractors and the California Health Department's Infectious Disease Branch stated: "The practice of colonic irrigation by chiropractors, physical therapists, or physicians should cease. Colonic irrigation can do no good, only harm." The National Council Against Health Fraud agrees [12]."

Open your diary. I am guessing you don't eat nearly enough vegetables and thus don't get the soluble and insoluble dietary fiber you need. Every now and then I hang out with my vegan friend and go to town on some vegetables and suddenly i'm 5 lb's lighter the next day.

PM me if you have specific questions. I'm a Colon Hydrotherapist. You're not going to get unbiased information in the forums, or from me. But at least I know what I'm talking about.

Are you also an expert on MS and what a colonic might do for that?
