Is there anything else I should be doing?

Hi, my name is Jennifer, I am 26 years old and 248 lbs. I have been trying to get pregnant for years now and it just is not working..Everyone I talk too says maybe loosing some weight will help. Being that I have gained so much in the past years it is probably a good idea anyways since adding 40 more lbs to my weight could only make it worse.

I recently went and had blood work done as its been a very long time, and my good cholesterol was low and my ALT (Liver Enzymes were extremely high) I believe I may have a fatty liver. Regardless I know its time to get healthy..I sit at a desk 60 hours a week at a high stress level job! So exercise seems impossible.

Here's my routine

1 GNC shake for breakfast 8AM
Fruit 10AM
Kellogs Ceral Bar/Protien Bar for Snack 11AM

1 GNC shake for Lunch 1 PM
Cup of veggies for snack 3 PM
Fruit.or Protien Bar 4PM

Get Home handle business and Eat a high protien Chicken or Fish with veggies meal
No time for the GYM between my 5 year old, husband and laundry dates, so I walk on my treadmill for 30 minutes , stretch, other exercises on the mat ,etc. and i have a ab lounger i use to do crunches...

Can anyone help with any other advise? I am in need of a life transformation and my head is finally in the right place!! I am looking to loose close to 100 lbs! That number scares me when I say it like that :/

Thanks for reviewing!!!

More (or at least AS) important as what you're eating is How Much?

Be sure you weigh and measure and log everything you are eating in order to get a handle of what you're actually taking in, in terms of calories. That way you have a baseline measure - if things aren't working as intended, you can adjust as necessary.

I'd personally ditch the shakes...unless you plan on making them a permanent fixture in your life going forward. While they may assist in weight loss, most people that use meal replacement shakes find it hard to keep the weight off once they stop using them, as they do nothing to teach you about proper meal planning, nutrition, etc.

Exercise isn't necessary to lose weight - it's mostly about diet. But that said, anything you can do to squeeze in even just a couple minutes (go for a quick walk after dinner, do a few push ups in the morning, etc) is better than nothing.

Here is a great "starting out" read:

I think in combination with trying to loose weight you should go and talk to an OBGYN or a fertility specialists. You may also have another underlying issue beyond just your weight. I've got PCOS and because of it I have difficulty getting pregnant (we've been TTC for 3 years now) as well as loosing weight because of the hormone imbalances I have as well. Metformin is helping me to control my PCOS as well as loose weight!

Thanks for the advise! I do have some other appointments lined up to look into those potential other issues that could be the cause. I have two aunts on different sides of the family who have endometriosis deseae and cannot have children.

The only logging I have been using is on my diary here on fitness pal, and it has been helping. The shakes are great for me during the morning and lunch hours at work , so I dont have to worry about stopping to get food or ordering out, it prevents making a wrong decision and know what the intake is...I do agree with the long term issue, as I should gradually cut out at least one of the two shakes and convert it to a more healthy balance meal.

Sometimes, it seems so impossible, but I know the end result will be amazing!! Thanks for the help!

Also try setting MINI goals for yourself! It will make that 100lb mark seem not so big. Start with 20lb or 10lb that way when you reach it you can see your progress in a positive way!

You've gotten some great advice so far! Ditto on the weighing for accuracy. If may seem a little daunting at first but I'll bet you'll be thankful you did it. I'm pretty good at guesstimating a lot of things but I was way off with some of my fruits and meats. It may not seem like much when you're off 50 calories here and there but those add up!

Also wanted to say, I totally get what you're saying about the final # being a bit daunting. I nearly had a panic attack when I finally faced facts and set my goal weight. But I did it and then I put it out of my mind and focused on mini goals, fitness goals and nutrition goals instead. Just realize it's going to take time and you'll need a lot of patience along the way. You can do this!

    Best of luck!

Hi Jennifer, chocho tea worked well for me. It's a natural tea from India zero side effects. All you got to do is add a spoonful in a glass of boilling water. One glass in the morning and then one in the evening. Just take it empty no sugar or milk. Do that for 7days and you'll feel very released. It's the best solution. I can help get it for you gpowell178@gmail.com.

Well one idea is intermittent fasting. I essentially don't eat after 8 pm, skip breakfast and lunch and then eat all my allotted calories over a 4 hour window from 4pm to 8pm. It's actually easier than it sounds. My big issue has always been eating out of habit or boredom, not because I'm really hungry and this plan helps with that. Plus, it's like having a huge feast towards the end of very day!

During the day my body has no choice but to pull from it's fat reserves once the glycogen has been used up. You can google intermittent fasting - there are several different ways to do it, I just prefer the 20/4 version. The key during the day is to drink a LOT to help curb any hunger pains.

I have PCOS and had trouble conceiving. Metformin helped me to control the PCOS and I got pregnant with my son. 3 yrs later I was having trouble again. A friend of mine suggested I read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility, The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health" by Toni Weschler That book changed the way I looked at my body. Following the instructions in the book I was able to conceive my daughter. But beside that the book really explains how a woman's body works and it's written so normal people can understand. The book has a website and there is a message board like this that could be helpful to you.
