Thought I was looking better but weigh more!

Between February and June I went from 10 stone 5 pounds to 9 stone 9 - it was slow as I didn't do anything drastic just changed to a healthier lifestyle with less rubbish, more regularly but healthy meals and snacks and a lot more exercise (took up running).

I started travelling a couple of months ago and at first I took no real notice of what I was eating - meals weren't really unhealthy except the odd pizza but I think I had a few too many sweet treats in between and definitely too much coca cola. After the first 3/4 weeks I started my running again and being more aware of what I was eating. I still slipped up and ate quite a few 'bad' snacks (Oreos m mainly ha!). Then I stopped doing that and really got focused, still having the odd treat as to not deprive myself of nice foreign foods but mainly eating less, running regularly and doing stomach toning exercises too (my stomach is my worst area). I really thought I was looking better, thought my stomach looked flatter and I generally looked slimmer. However today I weighed myself and.. I weigh 10 stone! I'm so frustrated! I did weigh myself at around 2.30pm, an hour and a half after lunch and had drank a fair bit of water today but still surely I peed that out? I also usually weigh myself naked but this was in a mall so had on a vest top and denim shorts, which can't weigh much??

How is it possible I've put on 5 pounds when I feel slim as I did when I was 9 stone 9?

And is it possible for me to lose lots of this before going home in 3 and a half weeks? I don't want to go home fatter than when I left!

Any help would be much appreciated before I run off to cry into an ice cream..

If you weighed yourself without clothes and before you ate or drank anything and this time it was late afternoon with a lot of clothes and after lunch, you would be up at least 5 pounds if not more. You also weighed on a different scale. Scales can vary greatly. I always weigh on the same day, no clothes and before eating or drinking anything. One morning I decided to see what would happen if I drank ice tea (2 glasses) and weighed again. I was up 1 pound! Just from some liquids. Don't panic and don't give up. Just get back on track.

It's possible that it's natural water fluctuations, a difference in scales, time of day, etc.

It's also possible that while you were eating Oreos and drinking pop, you put on five pounds.

If gaining weight upsets you, eating ice cream will likely not help. If you gained some weight, buckle down and lose it!

You can't uneat the Oreos, so forget about that and move on, doing a little better this time. :)

You maybe have gained some muscle...

but isn't how you feel most important rather than the number on the scale?? :flowerforyou:
  • I thought about muscle but I've not been doing that much weight training. I guess it's about how I feel but I kinda feel like maybe I see myself as looking slimmer than I am when I look in the mirror - I never look that good in photos as I do in the mirror! So I sort of use the scales to judge as I seem to have bad judgement of it without!

Probably just water/glycogen retention from the increase in activity and/or undigested food. How are your clothes fitting?

i dont understand what the problem is. do you walk around with scale displaying your weight at all times?
if you look better then shouldnt that be the point?
  • Hard to tell as I'm wearing such loose, baggy clothes at the moment due to hot weather! I do feel more comfortabl though but could just be a mental thing! Guess I'll have to wait and see until I get home and back on my usual scales - will just try hard from now til then!

    Thanks everyone for advice!!
