Calorie counting/deficit

Hia guys,
Okay so over the years I've tried loads of different diets and have always gone back to my starting weight, now I want to change, and I'm thinking the best way is to literally count the calories and make sure there's a calorie deficit.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me work it out please!

I'm 217lbs at the moment, 5ft 4 in height and sedentary most of the time.

I'm trying to eat 1200 calories a day atm.

Also - anyone got any success stories? :-)
Thanks!
E x

    Try this.....

    *Log EVERYTHING

    *Weigh Solids

    *Measure liquids

    *Exercise for fitness
    (weight lifting is my recommendation)

    *Be Honest with Yourself

*Measure yourself, take silly pictures and then enjoy your progress.

    And............

    *****MOST IMPORTANTLY******

    READ THIS

Counting calories works. I started at 262, now 172. the first 6 months I lost weight just eating between 1200-1500 calories a day. by the time I got to 210 I started working out (lifting mostly). I didn't use a kitchen scale until my weight loss slowed, but I highly recommend you get one. My wife thinks I'm being obsessive by weighing my food, but it is so easy to underestimate portions. If you're faithful about logging your food (and don't cheat), you will lose weight. Even in maintenance I still log as it keeps me honest.
  • Amazing all - thank you for your help! And the links - they look great!

So I'm at the moment okay to be looking at eating around 1200 cals a day, to lose 2lbs a week!

Look forward to more success stories!

    THANK YOU! x

Avoid refined sugar. It packs on the calories and does absolutely nothing to make you feel full. If you don't feel full, you will fail.
Don't listen to this. Everything in moderation.

Agreed. You can have treats. It's key to making sure you don't feel deprived. Does this mean you should eat cake all day, every day? No, obviously not. But having a couple of cookies after dinner? Shouldn't be a problem.

1200 is hard to eat.. its so low. I suggest you start adding in walks so you can get more calories to eat for the day. The rest of the advice and links given are great. Pretty much what I would tell you as well. Just don't think of this as a diet but a real lifestyle change. Make anything into a cardio exercise: sex, house cleaning, walks, swimming etc. THat helps out a lot for me. Plus take this one day at a time.
  • Thank you so much! Everything you've said sounds good and actually motivates me quite a bit! Thank you!

I strongly suggest changing your deficit to 1 lb per week and avoid possibly being hangry and frustrated.
  • Okay! Well i'm raring to go!
