Ok, here's the deal.
I have Comcast. I have NEVER had a problem with their internet...until this past month when I cut their cable service (Only mentioning this because of the weird coincidence).
First, my fault. I dropped it down to 3 mbps. My phone would barely even work.
So, I upped it to 6 mbps. Now my phone would work, but my Rokus wouldn't really keep a good connection.
I finally said, FINE! and went back up to 25 mbps. This seemed to fix the issue and everything was working fine for a couple of weeks...
Now the past few days, I can barely get any connection at all. My home computer (which has given me the least amount of problems) is even moving super slow. Comcast swears the connection is fine on their end.
So, I'm trying to figure out:
1) Is it just bad timing and I need a new modem or router or something? (Both are about 4 years old) (And if so, someone PLEASE tell me what kind of router I need...cause I'm hopeless...this one was given to my by an old IT boyfriend).
2) Is it something on Comcast's side and they're punishing me for dropping to internet only? (I say this only partially tongue in cheek. lol)
3) Is THIS my only option:

First things first. Do you have an ethernet cable and a computer you can plug directly into the router and not use wireless?0

When you say you can barely get any connection, do you mean that the signal is low and your devices aren't finding your network? Or is it just super slow on all devices? Is it ethernet and wifi or just wifi that's giving you trouble?0

I'm going with some obvious here but did you try restarting the router? :P
Check its configuration, maybe it messed up & is stuck at the 3 mbps/6mbps
Borrow a friends router & see if it works or not. Oh and use speedtest.net0 -
Doing a speed test is also an idea. I think I've used speedtest.net or .com or such in the past.0

Comcast is the worst! I spent over a month with my connection dropping all the time. Comcast said nothing was wrong - everything was fine on their end. Then we had outages for two weekends in a row while they did "scheduled maintenance" - and guess what...no more dropped connections.
Switch providers if you can!0 -
Resetting the router is probably what you need to do. I had to do this last week on my router AND modem and it fixed the problem.
I do a speed test to see how things are going. Someone suggested speedtest.net. If you search "speedtest" in your app store (iPhone for sure, not sure about Android) you should find it.0 -

Yes, Comcast does punish people for switching to a lower plan. They throttle your bandwidth and give you fake issues to make you want to go back to paying more money. You should read how much people complain about them. It's one of the most hated companies in the United States.

Yes, I did restart it. I have no idea how to check it's configuration.
Go to your browser and enter 192.168.1.1
It might ask for username & password, it should be admin for both in most routers. The main page should tell you the speed your router is set to
If 192.168.1.1 dont work or the password doesn't then either look up your router model online or put the name here0 -
What type of router are you currently using? Also, is the modem one comcast gave you or one you had on your own? If it's your own, what type of modem is it? I had modem I used for years with comcast but last year they stopped supporting it and my connection turned to garbage.
If you have a device you can plug in with an Ethernet cord directly to the modem, we can quickly rule out if it's a problem on comcast's end or not. Have you tried looking for the reset button on your router to restore it back to factory defaults? (Please note, if you do that, you will need to set up your wireless networks password and settings again.)0 -
