Upped Calories and Gained

So since Tuesday I upped my calories because people suggested on here 1410 was too low and I should up my activity level to lightly active as I aim to exercise 5 times a week. However after 3 days of doing this I have measured myself this morning and have gained on my chest and hips by a good half an inch :/ really disappointed and not too sure what to do now.

  • Maybe stop listening to people who still haven't grasped the concept that in order to lose weight your calorie intake must be lower than your calorie output. Exercising (whilst offering other health benefits) is unlikely to aid weight loss to any significant degree. If you like exercising, then great, go for it. However, if weight loss is your true goal, spend that time cooking meals from scratch and weighing and measuring every single calorie. I believe that if you are 100 per cent accurate (and honest) about the number of calories you are consuming you will get your weight under control.

    Good luck :)

I've always stuck with the calorie count on here and left it at sedentary, and it's worked for me.

Upping calories and changing activity level would give you a double boost of calories left.

I've gone with the thought of booking absolutely everything on the app (I use Endomondo for exercise) and leaving my exercise level at sedentary, as that way I don't over compensate.

I'm currently 15st 8 (99kg) and 5 foot 10, and on 1440 calories for 2lb/week loss, so 1410 isn't that low depending on what your aim is.

Don't lose faith though. I've lost nearly 5 stone since Christmas just by following the app, with a little bit of gym cardio sporadically.

3 days arent really a measure
Try 2-3 weeks & then compare.

True - 2 weeks minimum. 3 days might mean those days in a month, salty foot, not going on a big toilet need and so on. Take a look at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1408404-don-t-freak-out-about-a-small-scale-gain

I've put my faith in the calorie figure given to me by MFP and it's worked. I do admit that three days is a short time to monitor progress if you've changed your calorie levels... Have you tried putting everything at default (sedentary and whichever weight loss you want) and seeing what calorie level it offers you?

You will an increase in calories means more carbs which initially will retain more water. It will settle down after a wee bit. You need to learn some patience it doesn't happen over night. If after a few weeks then it may be an issue but 3 days. Patience I repeat again PATIENCE. Also maybe stay away from the scales for a couple of weeks as it doesn't seem to do you any good
