when the nutritional info is obviously off.

Has anyone ever seen a entry on MFP or the restaurant's info page that seems to be so off it's almost absurd? For example: Applebees - Honey Pepper Chicken Tenders With Fries Lunch Combo, 1 Lunch Combo Portion in MFP, there is no way three baby tenders with a tablespoon of honey and 15-20 shoestring fries is almost a thousand calories.

Maybe the places down here are skimping on the official recipe but I've seen it other places too, I know people generally underestimate calorie counts but not that much.

yeah- it just mostly makes me laugh- and then I feel bad for someone who SERIOUSLY thinks a serving size of fry's is 50 calories.

Wouldn't surprise me. The lunch you're talking about is 100% fried, except for the honey. The going rate for a small portion of fries is ~400cals. And that's probably not even real honey, but rather honey-flavored syrup.

Sorry but yes, it's most definitely close to 1000 calories.

Typically it's the other way around that I don't trust it.

Agreed... it's definitely close to 1,000. Disgusting? Yes. Delicious? Yep.

I've seen some of them that are way off, though that Applebee's post seems about right. I don't know what they do to that food, but even a salad there is over 1,000 calories (who puts actual bacon on a salad???). What really drives me nuts is when someone just puts calories and zeroes everything else out. I had a couple of days where my carbs were off because of someone doing that on sweet potato fries. Seriously, who enters zero carbs on anything with the word potato in it? :-P

That's a plate of deep fried food with some sugar thrown on top for good measure...1,000ish calories would seem about right to me. Most restaurant portions in general are anywhere between 800 - 1200 calories unless you're ordering off of a low cal menu. Not sure why you're thinking this entry is so "obviously" off...I think it's probably closer to correct than you think.
(who puts actual bacon on a salad???)

I put bacon on my salads all of the time...there's nothing inherently wrong with bacon...

um- lots of people- almost every house salad you order comes with bacon- cheese and egg on it.

bacon bites are totally a thing.

^^^ YES! THIS! Absolutely its at leasts 1000 calories with everything being fried. I made my hubby some duncan hines strawberry cupcakes and decided to have one myself (sans frosting of course) and when I went into the database to enter it, there are foolios that seem to think that their prepared cupcake WITH FROSTING is 180 calories! Who thinks that a fat laden cake with cream cheese and butter frosting is only 180 calories??? A tablespoon of butter is 100 calories and there are usually about 2-3 tablespoons of frosting on a cupcake. Common sense people! I'll tell you what, if cupcakes were only 180 calories I would eat them ALL FRIGGIN DAY LONG! Just for those who dont know, your average cupcake is at least 400 calories and thats with a small amount of frosting! No wonder there are people on here that complain that they arent losing weight but are insistant that they are under their calorie goals...

no- usually the problem is over estimating calorie burns (meaning they think they burned more than they actually did)

    and simultaneously

underestimate the food they ate- (meaning thinking they ate less than they did when they really ate more)

    its' a wildly common problem.

    Yep.

And lol @ the 180 calorie cupcake. Guessing it was a fat free horribly thing for 180 calories.

Depends. Some over the counter bacon bits are bacon flavored crunchy things. On salad, they nasty. Real bacon or GTFO.

it sounds like those counts assume that you're only using a tablespoon of frosting, which would only qualify as a light glazing. meanwhile the pretty picture has the frosting piled high and claim that's a "suggested serving."

i had to do a triple-take last night because the recipe i created looked like it was logging too few calories. i had to go back in and re-check the ingredients (i weigh EV. REY. THING.) and the associated database foods just to make sure i was getting the right ones.

    Yes,that's true, per Applebee's website it's 920 calories.

I usually check restaurant menus online for nutritional information (if available) before I go there. It helps me to make wise decisions

On MFP's database? Absolutely, you have to be careful about that.

On a restaurant site? If you think it's overestimating calories I'd maybe email the restaurant, but my guess is it might not be so absurd, as the restaurant would have an incentive to avoid overestimating calories.

I didn't say I ate it- I just said it's a thing. I actually do not prefer bacon on my salads- I mean- I'll eat it- but I don't like bacon and cheese- I'm a bacon snob- I only eat a handful of things "with" bacon or "wrapped" in bacon. But i don't put it on everything- if I want bacon. I just want BACON.

lol- I do that when I'm making sauces- or delicious treats. I'm always flabbergasted with how much meat sauce winds up being- it's obscene- like 500 calories for one serving (I only eat the meat and sauce- no pasta- so it's usually like 5 pound of meat split into xx servings) but STILL. i'ts a lot.

Treats wind up being less tan I expected but only because they are small- and then I eat to many LOL
