Logging alcohol??

Hey everyone

So if I'm eating cereal for breakfast and salad for lunch and dinner with little snacking in between except for fruit should I be logging alcohol? I drink maybe 2/3 nights a week and always have gin and tonic rather than higher calorie drinks but I'm aware that alcohol affects the process of burning calories but surely if I'm eating between 600-1000 calories a day it can't be having that much of an effect? Any advice would be much appreciated! Also please no lectures on calorie intake, I'm trying to increase it as I'm almost at my goal weight but it's a slow process..!

    You should log everything you put in your mouth. Otherwise what is the point of logging anything?

    Log everything with calories - yes! I don't drink that often or that much but I am drinking tonight. I'm setting aside 700 calories just for beer tonight.

    Yes you should log your alcohol and yes, you should eat more.

    However will logging your alcohol cause you to eat less? Because if so, maybe you should continue not logging it, I guess.

    Yes, log anything you consume unless it's genuinely calorie-free or the amount is too insufficient to bother with (e.g. a few pieces of spinach on a sandwich is like nothing)

    Also definitely increase your cal intake as you mention you are doing. Just understand that if you lost 40-some lbs eating 1000 cals a day, your metabolism is likely rightly screwed and you will likely gain some weight back once you start eating a healthy amount.

    Give those a spin for an idea of what someone your age/height/sex/activity levels is on average able to maintain their weight on.
  • First off - you need to drink more than that. Try increasing to 5-6 nights a week minimum, at least 8-10 drinks.

    Incidentally, gin-and-tonic isn't actually as low-cal as you might think. Depending on the ratios you use, it's probably running your somewhere around 130 calories. That's more than a typical glass of dry wine, more than a whiskey & soda water, and more than a bottle of most light beers.

    Not that it makes much difference, but still, it's certainly enough to log, wouldn't you say?

    By the way, I made a "custom" category in my log that I just use for alcohol and related food/drink (such as olive garnishes). So I am tracking my booze, but I am able to also look at it separately fairly easily.

    You should be logging alcohol. It's calories that you're consuming and that's the goal of logging; to know how many calories you're consuming.

    Well, exciting food journal. Cereals, salad and salad and some fruit.
    Maybe get some information about macros and how healthy eating should look like. Just a suggestion.
    And yea, log Alcohol. Tons of calories.

    I log all my alcohol... You would be amazes at how fast those cals add up

    You might be surprised at the calorie content for tonic (if it's not diet).

    Alcohol whether it be beer, wine, or gin, has been a major obstacle in my weight loss. I would love to say that I'll just cut it out completely, that just isn't honest. I have gotten to the point where I am balancing a healthy diet, meeting most of my nutritional goals, and allowing a few drinks while staying within my caloric limits. Weekends are a different story…..
    But yes, please account for all intake, alcohol included. It's eye-opening to see how many calories we drink. Good luck!

    Tonic was a big surprise for me! I drink most all of my liquor neat these days, unless a bar has a particularly intriguing cocktail.
