I had my thyroid removed 20 years ago. and had to take medication since. Losing weigh is hard enough anyway but hypothyroidism adds more of a challenge. If that isn't bad enough our metabolism will naturally slow with age. I didn't struggle with weigh issues until age 55. I can't expect this 62 year old body to respond the same as it did when it was 40. I'm hoping to at least walk fast enough so no more extra pounds can catch me.
My number one goal is to be healthy. Everything else will fall into place.

I'm 55 and have been losing intelligently. Also have high blood pressure, just reduced my medication, my plan is to be off medication altogether. Not sure about the thyroid, I have an appointment this week, hoping it's nothing. Gettin' old ain't for sissies! I've been working out hard since finding MFP and realized how bad my diet was. You've come to the right place.:flowerforyou:

good morning, I'm 55 had high blood pressure and to date, have gone from taking 2 meds to taking nothing......I have been losing weight the right way finally.....and with the help of MFP, I have gotten back on track when I have had a bad day.....I have found others in our age group that understand the battles of being older and losing weight, getting into an exercise routine.....I have found the support needed to get up and back on track when I have had a bad day..there is always someone who has had the same situation, understands how you feel and what you have been through ....and there is no yelling, no backlash for falling only the support of moving forward ........so welcome to the family :flowerforyou:  you have come to the right place for your support in diet, exercise, recipe and just in general.....
  • Hi there,
I am just starting - 52 yr old woman, been 160 - 170 lbs since had to give up running 15 years ago - weighed about 120 lbs then...blew out my back, and gained all the weight over the years....trying to get back in shape again, as I hate been overweight and feeling so awful (and looking awful). Guess I just hit my rock bottom a few weeks ago.
Trying a ketogenic diet, but having a hard time transitioning, but not sure what I'm doing wrong!
Feel free to lean on me if you would like!
