I hear mixed views on bananas and I like them with my special K in the morning but the carbs are hight! What is your view on bananas on a diet and what do you like to substitute for bananas on cereal or oatmeal?

3#'s closer to my goal....

    They are great before a workout...give u an energy boost. I dont love them but i try to eat 1 everyday because I have low potassium.
  • bananas are good and bad. bad: high in sugar and carbs. good: high in potassium. I usually use blueberries in my cereal or raisins. (raisins are high in sugar too though). :) hope this helps!

    If it's a natural, whole food like bananas, almonds, etc. You should definitely eat it. If your daily sugar is over because of a banana I wouldn't get upset. Now if it's because of the packet you put in your coffee then that's a different story. See what I mean?

    I would eat one or two, as long as it fits into my calorie budget. I think they're over 100 cals so I wouldn't make it a huge part of my daily diet though.. I think it's fine in the morning if you like it!

    Bananas are a healthy, wholesome option, and a much better choice over your cereal than a spoonful of sugar. That said, there are other fruits that are much lower in sugar and calories than bananas. I usu. sprinkle blueberries over my cereal, if I want to sweeten it.

    You could slice your banana very thinly, and that way you still get the banana taste/sweetness, but only eat 1/2 of the banana, if you're worried about the carbs/calories.

    LOL..I agree about the sugar comment above! I wish I liked bananas because overall they are a heathly food. But I can't stand their taste. Only way I will have one is in a smoothie.

    I like to eat them if I need to eat something RIGHT before a run, because it gives me energy without sitting heavy in my stomach. I also like to mash them up and put them in my morning oatmeal with some almond butter. The natural sweetness of the banana means I don't need to add any additional sugar, and it keeps me feeling full all morning.

    I have one every day on my breakfast cereal. I don't think twice. They're naturally sweet and I love them. I account for them and move on.
  • I agree about bananas being good for you, so just enjoy that banana with your cereal.

    banana = good nutrients

    I say stick with them as well, but try using half in your cereal, I use half a day with my Shakeology.
