I bought a cheapy HRM off ebay just to see what it's like. it's a watch.
It's not accurate right?! Because all you do is enter your weight etc....then press a button to start exercise and then it works out the calories.
It's also got a part where you put your finger on and it measures your HR
Is it worth keeping?! Because the treadmills at the gym has the same thing...

A lot of people will say no because they love their chest strap monitors. But I believe that the watch HRM work very well. I bought a New Balance watch HRM from Kohls.com, and I love it! I let it measure my heart rate every 3 to 4 minutes when I am working out and it tells me how many calories burned I have. I don't have to stop moving when I do this and it only takes about 5 seconds. I have always found it to accurate within 20-40 calories of what MFP says, and I have been successful with my weight loss using it for the past five months. I am sure your watch is just fine. Try it out and see what kind of results you get. Good luck!0

Never tried one...but have had SEVERAL Hr monitors that use the chest strap.....they have all been very accurate...use one everyday ....was wondering why you didn't just pony up for the chest strap monitor??0

I agree with kappyblu, I too purchased a $50 New Balance wrist HRM at Target and it is pretty accurate to MFP. I was told by another MFP member to make sure when doing weight training to stop the calorie counter when resting in between weight training sets. When you are ready to continue with oyur next set - you press restart. This will give you a fairly accurate reading. I made the mistake by letting the counter go continously throughout my 40 minute curcuit training. I burned 580 calories when MFP only calculated 338?!?! So, it is very important to stop and start when working with weights.

Its a waste of money IMO. The chest strap is most accurate and it allows you to keep your all focused on your workout, rather than to keep touching that little button. Plus, you would literally have to keep your finger on the button the whole time to get a true read. I was given a cheap one at the gym when signing up a few years back and it was way off ( it would say I burned so much more than I really had - which is bad if you are eating back "cals burned" that were not really burned. ) So with that said I think its a waste. You can find a good one on Amazon, they have great deals on Polars!0

I have a Sportline wristwatch model from Target that is garbage It doesn't read my HR half the time, calories burned is WILDLY inaccurate and it sometimes just stops in the middle of a workout. I too was hurting for funds and figured something was better than nothing but I should've saved a little bit longer and got something better.0
