NSV - comments rolling in now

It took forever and like 40-something lbs lost to finally get some comments besides close family and friends. Some of it maybe due to the fact that I was still wearing my bigger sized clothes. But I have gotten like 20 comments in the past 2 weeks. This morning from the security guard at my office building. He's a younger guy but said I have really "cut" and it is very noticeable.

I am somewhat a private person and self conscious about myself so part of me thinks "man, I must have been a big fat ugly oaf before" but on the other hand it is nice to hear some comments to prove the hard work is paying off.

  • Congrats! That’s such an awesome feeling, isn’t it? I’m still waiting to get to that point with this round of weightloss. I had put back on about 10-15lbs over the winter, which I’ve succeeded in taking off and then some (20lbs down since December, 15lbs since end of May!), but still besides one or two random comments, no one seems to notice! It can be a bit frustrating because I definitely feel like I look different…

It’s a weird thing though. Sometimes people notice right off, and other times it takes 30, 40, 50lbs lost before anyone says anything. It’s great when you hit that point though, because it is a bunch of positivity coming your way. Can be a bit awkward to know what to say, but just revel in it. You’ve worked hard. :)

It seemed to take a while for people to comment on my weight loss too. At first it was, "Wow. You've been working really hard!" Then it was, "Oh, meet Crystal. She's our exercise queen!" Now it's, "Do you really need to lose anymore?" lol Which I do. I'm 10lbs away from my goal--and I may go a bit under that. It's like the first comments are awe, the second are pride, and the third are you-can-stop-now. I think it takes people a bit to adapt to change. It's not that they don't notice, it's that they haven't reconciled it with themselves yet.

Congrats on your loss!! That's awesome!

Sometimes, I think people honestly don't notice. Not that they're being rude or anything -- they just see you for your personality instead of your appearance. Eventually, you seem enough different that it makes them do a mental "double-take" of sorts.

Or other times, they notice but don't know how to talk about it (without feeling awkward or for fear of making you feel awkward) - so they wait until it's REALLY obvious or they hear other people talking about it before saying something.

    Either way, great job! ;)
