Or is there a better explanation as to why edamame sold in America often comes from china?

I did not know this - I live in one of the biggest soy producing states in the nation - you would think they would not ship them in - especially from China.

Both mandarin and cantonese oranges only come from China.

Does it matter if it's organic? If I ever buy edamame it's usually in the natures market in wegmans.

We export them to China so that we can import them at a cheaper rate.

Is it safe to say that American T-shirts / Electronics / Cars / Toys are unworthy of being used?

No, it just means we're lazy AF and outsource everything to make a profit on cheap labor costs. And bc chinese food > american food

I am a soybean export trader. Soybeans and edamame are not one in the same. Edamame is a specific type of soybean deigned for immature consumption.

If you went to a soybean field and ate a green soybean you would taste the difference.

I find it odd that we don't package them and export them to the rest of the planet claiming they are "superior" or "the world's greatest".

Just like with Alaskan salmon. We freeze the fish, export the salmon to be de-boned and skinned and then import it back.

Unless those people on NPR lied to me...
