Total noob question

When I enter my strength training, most of it is dumbbells. For barbell stuff, I enter the total weight, e.g. bench 120. But for dumbbell exercises, do you enter the total weight or the weight per muscle group? e.g. biceps curl using two 40-lb dumbbells -- entered as 40 or 80?

    doesnt matter as long as its consistent. but when talking dumbbells people usually refer to each individual dumbbells weight, i.e. curling 40's

    That's how I figured. It was only when I'm using them to simulate barbell exercises that I started wondering. Thanks.
