I've just returned from a month in Nairobi which is 6,000 ft above sea level. I've been fighting to loose weight for about 10 years now. I have hypothyroidism and find its almost impossible to move the scale anywhere but up . While I was in Kenya I noticed for the first time ever I was losing weight effortlessly. Unfortunately upon my return home, fight as I may i returned to my usual weight.

Hang in there and dont give up This is really helpful. . Continue to track your food and exercise daily. You can do it0

Not necessarily altitude, but certainly oxygen saturation. At 6,000 feet above sea level about 15% of the air you breathe is oxygen compared to about 21% at sea level. Since very few of your body's important metabolic processes are anaerobic, oxygen is a vital part of your metabolism. Your body is probably accustomed to the 15% levels experienced at your home and the brief hyper-oxygenation you experienced bumped your metabolism up a notch. Unfortunately if you were to spend a more meaningful amount of time at sea level, your body would then become accustomed to the 21% levels and your metabolism would slow correspondingly. Worse yet, if you then returned to 6,000 feet and 15% oxygenation levels your metabolism would temporarily slow as your body got used to the oxygen levels again.0
