usually on a weight loss calorie goal total 30% of your calories from your protein is a common "ballpark" goal.
Research isn't going to support HAVING to have that have that high of a protein intake to allow muscle/lean mass retention during weight loss or muscle building in a caloric surplus though.0 -
I like having a protein shake in the morning but maybe you'd prefer to eat eggs. Up to you.
Whey tastes the best, btw.
For the record, I cram a lot of stuff in it:
MY MASTER SMOOTHIE LIST
Protein powder
Chia seeds
Sesame seeds
Goji powder
Acai powder
Cinnamon
Cacao nibs
Hemp
Flax
Powdered Calcium
Vitamin D – liquid
Maca
Powders: Beet or carrot or pomegranate or tart cherry0 -
I like Eidopro Flavorless Protein Powder: 0g sugar, 23g protein. Got it off of Amazon.0

I have been doing protein shakes for 20+ years and the best protein powder that works for me is Biogenics BioPure Whey Protein. It's unflavored and no artificial ingredients. Also the whey was not treated with chemicals OR heat (both can damage the protein and make it unusable for your body). I was talking with a nutritionist about another protein that gave me allot of gas. She told me this was due to the quality and poor process used to create the Whey powder. Most likely my body was not breaking it down and that I was wasting my money. She recommended this protein and I've used it for years now with good results. No stomach aches, no gas and great gains in my lifting. I even add a scoop to Oatmeal to increase the protein there. It also mixes easily with water.
Good Luck!0 -
Just make sure it doesn't have Creatine in it.
Creatine causes your muscles to retain as much as 70% more water. Creatine in whey products exists to cause your muscles to swell up, which can be good for adding strength through volume (muscle size), but not ideal if you're still trying to lose weight (I found out the hard way).0 -
I found that I tolerated Isopure pretty well; especially the vanilla. I recently however started using Now Whey Protein Isolate, which has no fillers or sucralose which means no flavor, and tolerating it well so far.0
