Is this sugar withdrawal?

I've stopped eating so much sugar and sweeteners in my tea and coffee and cereals. I've also decided to quit SWEETS. As you all know with my quitting sugar post of the last two days.

I've started a day and a half ago with this. And today I'm like REALLY dizzy. I mean I was laying in bed this morning and my whole room started spinning. I can't walk too fast because it starts to feel like motion sickness, and even if I sit down and get up very slooowwwwly, I still get dizzy.

Now I'm not someone who believes sugar is addicting. And frankly I can have it in other foods besides sweets without any binging, but could this be because I've cut down on it so much so quickly?

I place the blame on sugar withdrawal FOR NOW, because that's the only thing I've done differently in the past days. Could it be a symptom of it? If not, any other ideas as to what it may be?

Side note: I'm known to have low blood pressure, but I ate some bovril (its extremely salty) as soon as I felt this way, but it made no difference.

Doesn't sound like it has anything to do with sugar, but if you want to have some sugar to see, eat a banana.

It is very possible that cutting sugar too quickly is causing dizziness. Sugar is highly addictive and there are withdrawal symptoms when you eliminate it from your diet. I would say after a couple of days, if the dizziness doesn't go away, I would go see your physician. You could even experiment with eating some sugar and see if symptoms improve.

You still eat fruit so go eat an apple. Me thinks you're just looking for attention though.

Unless you've cut carbs a great deal also, then no.
What you are experiencing is not 'sugar withdrawal'.

My gym instructor disagrees with you. Because I've never tripped on the treadmill and fallen my *kitten* off before while walking 5km/h.

I usually do 7.5km/h at 16% incline and can hold my balance well.

Can you open your food diary? It could be a lot of things. Also, I would recommend getting a blood panel done to see if anything is out of whack.

Edit: I would go back to getting a blood panel after looking into things further. Your carbs are actually rather high. It's potential you are deficit in another area. In general, I would recommend more protein and less carbs in your diet. Since you have low bp, bacon is your friend.

Keep the salt up then, less carb intake will mean less sodium retained and a tendency to lower blood pressure. If you've just made a significant change to carb intake it would be better to avoid vigorous exercise until you get stabilised on the new diet.
  • I don't know for sure. I had dizzy spells when I suddenly stopped eating refined sugar a few years ago.

But when I stopped again a few months ago I didn't have any side effects. However, I did eat some honey for the first few days and lots of fruit. I cut out the honey after a few weeks and reduced my fruit intake gradually.

I still have 1-2 pieces of fruit a day now though (sometimes none), but I have no cravings for sugar.

When I dropped processed sugars/flours as an experiment I felt that way for about 4 days. I'd dropped a glass of water, was irritable, had a headache, also, etc. The days after I started feeling much better. That said, I was eating a lot of greens, and still eating berries, apples, in addition to proteins. But that's where all my carbs were coming from, no processed sugars, flours at all. I really think I was having withdrawls. Three of the books I've recently read all told me to basically expect this.

I used to be "hungry" with appetite cravings when I was on those no matter really what I was eating. I just don't do well with them, and am starting to finally feel good.
