I just read the most amazing article in cosmo. They said that you should drink 2 cups of water before each meal and that it will instantly shed off 5 pounds in 3 months! It tricks your stomach into thinking that you are already partially full. Just thought I would share this wonderful tip with you all

That actually works. I have a friend who does ramp modelling and this is what she does when she needs to shed some before a stint along with her daily workout.0

I haven't stuck to it so I can't say if you lose weight or not, but I have purposely drank 2 glasses of water before a meal and felt STUFFED before I even ate.0

I read that as well, and my question was, doesn't that cut into the calories your supposed to eat to not go into starvation mode??0

I can't speak for everyone, but, no. It encourages you to eat less, yes, but you still get pleanty of calories throughout the day. I think it's really helpful when you're just starting out to cut downportion sizes. Also, if you eat 5 small meals a day, you're sure to get your calories.0 -
I suppose it would work if you only eat when you feel hungry - sadly hunger is not something I often feel.
I eat when sad, happy, bored, busy, celebrating, commiserating - oh yes occasionally when I get hungry.0 -
Agree with prencesskl, unless one having hard time not over eating. Keep counting those calories you eat/drink helps.0

My question would be, is it really true? Based on my anatomy/physiology knowledge, I would have to question this since water would mix with the stomach acids and make them less strong, therefore slowing down the digestion process. I think it is in Indian philosophy where they avoid drinking water until an hour has passed by from the time they've eaten, for the same reason I said.
Water is used by the body to take the waste out, including the fat burned, but I've never heard of drinking water and losing weight.0 -

According to the Mayo Clinic, "there's no concern that water will dilute the digestive juices or interfere with digestion. In fact, drinking water during or after a meal can actually improve digestion. Water and other liquids help break down the food in your stomach and keep your digestive system on track." http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/digestion/AN01776
Chewing your food adequately (about 25x) aids digestion, as well, and can help you lose weight. It also helps you pace yourself so you don't eat too quickly and end up stuffing yourself before you start receiving signals that you're full.0 -
I am going to try this. I don't drink enough water anyway and I think this would be a good way to get me started.0

I tried it today after reading this post and drank a 16oz bottle of water before lunch. It made me puke when I was done eating.0
