Anyone work with a personal trainer?

I had my first session with a personal trainer yesterday. While it was very humbling for me as the trainer was my age with the same amount of kids, and very fit, I did feel quite good when done. I am thinking of buying an 8 week training package to get me going and then perhaps doing the gyms (cheaper) "boot camp" program. Does anyone else have personal experience with hiring a trainer and, if so, were you able to better stick to your goals?

TIA!

I work with a trainer twice a week and do boot camp 3x a week on the other days. I love working with a trainer. It helps me push harder and stay more motivated. It also gives me a second opinion and feedback from someone who knows what they're doing about my progress in terms of diet/bringing up weak areas/technique. When I'm tired and training at my house it's easy to convince myself I pushed hard, if I'm in a session with my trainer he'll tell me if I'm slacking off...

Some love them. Some hate them. Personally they annoy the daylights out of me though I did have one years ago when I was into heavy lifting. I think if it's what motivates you, that's awesome. Now I just run and do abs. No trainer required.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :flowerforyou:

I had three sessions with one and liked it. I wanted to learn proper form for free weights. He worked up a workout that fit the equipment I have at home and my goals. At some point I might purchase a few more sessions in order to change up my workout or if I am reaching the limits of my equipment at home (I have dumbbells but at some point might want to move to the barbell.)

I have worked with trainers for short sessions 3 times in the past 2 years, each at a different stage for me. I prefer to have someone that is trained help me develop a workout plan.

I just meet with a new trainer this week and while I actually like her (I would have never thought I would work out with a woman) she didn't really show me anything new so for me at this point I need to DO what I have been taught on a regular basis.

The perk that I see in signing up for the time frame that you are looking at is that in time frame you will more than likely develop the habit of doing what the trainer has you working on and will more than likely continue doing it. I think as long as you and the trainer are on the same page and they are someone you are comfortable talking to, it will be a great investment!

It depends on the trainer. Some are crap, some are great.

I haven't personally worked with one, just commenting on what I have seen.

I've worked with trainers on and off for the past 7 years, and 2x/week for the past 5-6 months. Before I really got my fitness on, it was a way to ensure that I would workout at least 1x week, usually more because I didn't want to look bad for the trainer! Mine is really great in that she changes up the routine based on my goals and preferences, will come up with a routine for me to do on my own (and even ones for when I travel!), and most importantly helps me keep my form correct.

But its a bit like finding a new partner for anything, time, patience, and a lot of trial and error; but when someone clicks it works well!
