Should I?

Hello, every morning I check my weight. Sometimes it goes lower and sometimes it doesn't.. Is it supposed to go lower every day? I already lost 8-10 pounds. So should I check every morning or am I trying to move things quickly?

Your body fluctuates every day. Weight loss is about trends over long periods of time. Some day you gain, some you lose, some you maintain. There is no reason to weigh yourself daily unless you like to.

You're thinking to much into it. The scale will go up and down daily. This weight loss journey is not linear and you may even have a week of no loss and may even show a gain (water weight). There are so many circumstances that will change the scale daily. So focus more on the weekly weight, one day a week on the scale vs the daily scale weight. It will end up driving you insane.

    Echo the other posts.

I log my weight every day, but I didn't look at it for the first 2-3 months, and since then only look at the 6-12 month trend chart on MFP. The only thing that matters is the long-term trend, daily weight can be influenced by eating too many olives the night before (sodium intake higher than normal), quite frankly.

First your ticker shows only 1 pound lost ??? Second, it looks like you just started this month? This is totally normal at first, especially if you have a little more to lose as your body usually drops some water in the beginning. Congratulations, you're off to a good start!

I check my weight everyday, but record once a week on Monday's. I like to keep track of how I'm doing throughout the week (woah maybe I shouldn't have had the extra hot dog at the bbq on Saturday..better add an extra workout in there, or oh you didn't do so bad going out to eat last night...good job!) but don't put too much thought into it until Monday rolls around & it's time to record & take body measurements.

there are many factors that affect weight, stress, menstruation, muscle building though exercise, you might be intolerant to something and you become swollen, water retention, illness, constipation...... what i do personally is weight myself everyday when i wake up on an empty stomach and observe the numbers but don't go too crazy about it.
For example, yesterday i weighed about 500g/1 pound more so you'll think, OMG i put on weight, no, today i weighed myself again and it was back on track, at the begining i wasn't losing so i looked at the food log and observed the sugar was quite high (processed sugar) so i cut it off and starting shedding.
If all of a sudden you notice permanent fluctuations on your weight, analyse what have you been eating lately, exercise levels and sleep hours, something will be off, don't panic, just fix it and carry on.

observe your weightloss rate per week and as long as you are keeping up don't worry too much but be mindful that the less you have to lose the more difficult and slow it becomes, the last few pounds are the hardest, so basically what i'm saying is use the scale to serve you don't be a slave to it.

    keep calm and carry on.

How often you weigh is up to you. Every day, once a week or month, never...doesn't matter and is completely unrelated to actually losing.

It should go down every day. It should go down ten pounds a day! But it doesn't. It goes up and down in mostly wee little bits all the time. And at period time, it goes way up and then drops back down. The more you lose, the slower it goes. It's a ****er that way.

Don't sweat the ups and downs. Follow the trend over the course of a month or two. If it's going down, yay! If it's not, make some adjustments. :)

I weigh myself every day - sometimes more (I mean the scales went up this morning - surely weeing twice since would reduce that number - right??). I know that is utter rubbish - but i still haven't learned how to stop!

I put the numbers into a spread sheet. Every day. But every Wednesday is highlighted in green. As long as that number isn't higher than the last green one I'm ecstatic. It also calculated my average weight for the last 7 days for me. And that tends to show a consistently lower number! So that's all good. And I try to pay more attention to this than the paragraph above.

I do this because my body likes to hold into water. If I just looked at the number on the scale I'd have jacked this in 12lbs ago.

I also take measurements and photos. The photos are new - I've decided to do the one month apart - first months showed dramatic shrinking - the scales only showed 3lbs! My waist is now 4 1/2 inches smaller than when I started - and this is starting to matter more than the pounds and ounces lost. I'm hoping that if I continue with this it'll become much more important that the scales, and the data I analyse from them!

I weigh myself everyday when I have a lot to lose (like 30lbs+) like post baby weight.

Right now I don't have a whole lot to lose, I'm already at a technically "healthy" weight, and I'm focusing more on gaining muscle, so it's coming off MUCH slower so I weigh weekly instead. I also do measurements every 2-4 weeks.
