Is tuna good for you?

I was at subway one time (and I was dieting at that time too) and I wanted tuna. But I looked at their "watching calories?" sign and tuna wasn't one of the choices. So is it not healthy?

Nothing is healthy or unhealthy. Eating too much of something is the only way it becomes bad for you. That said, tuna is good since it has a good amount of protein for a relatively low calorie count (if you buy fresh or canned in water). Of course, keep condiments in mind, as some people won't eat it without substantial amount of mayo.0

On its own, it's not unhealthy, per say, but it depends how you have it. I wouldn't necessarily trust Subway's tuna as the healthiest choice because I don't know what they put in it. Could have a lot of sodium or other things. I always prepare my own tuna at home because then I know exactly what's in it, and I can control my portions that way.
For one can of light albacore tuna in water, I use 2 TBSP of greek yogurt, about 1/2 tsp of lemon juice, and salt and black pepper to taste. I use this on sandwiches, in wraps, or serve it on a bed of lettuce or spinach for a light and healthy lunch.0 -

Tuna is high in protein and has omega-3 fats that are usually considered 'good for you' and is often a good addition to your diet when trying to lose weight because it's low cal and filling. They say now to limit it due to possible mercury levels.0 -
Take a look at the micros and decide if that is what you want to be eating.

Subways adds a lot of mayo and preservatives to their mix..make it at home with greek yogurt and its very low cal:
Small Tuna can(70)
Small Pita (110)
Yogurt (40)
Yellow mustard (5)
Tomato celery red onion
Total: 215 (obviously less without the bread)
I use a lot of celery and red onions diced up and it bulks it up and makes it huuuuge0 -

Canned tuna is excellent food by itself.
I forgot about the mayo added to make tuna salad. That would put it off the healthy list. Along with egg salad, ham salad, and so on. They are healthy foods until the mayonaise0 -
Tuna, all fish really has good fats and omega 3's in it. Low calorie doesn't neccesarily equal good for you. But yeah, as others have said, the reason it isn't on their low cal choices is that they pre-mix it with mayo.0

probably had mayo or something else with higher calories. tuna is good for you if eaten with other things that are good for you.0

I just made a tuna salad wrap for dinner, with mayo (Kraft w/Olive Oil...35 calories for a tablespoon!), mozzarella, and romaine on a whole wheat wrap and it's delicious. If only I had tomatoes to add on then it would be perfect!0
