Walking 10,000 steps day question

My goal is to walk 10,000 steps a day using my FitBit as I am trying to get back in shape. I've been doing it for 2 weeks. Is it recommended to take a rest day or not if it's "just" walking?

I don't think with walking it matters as much as harder cardio. However, if you do, make sure you have negative calories enabled on here so you don't eat too much, as you won't be burning as many calories.0

10,000 steps a day is a recommended minimum activity level by many government health organisations. There's no problem with doing that every day. I've also got a Fitbit and have done 10 000 steps a day for all but 3 days since I got it in January (and have not done less than 10 000 steps since March I think). Rather than thinking it could cause overtraining, I regard my walks as rest time - time for me to download the days problems.
I wouldn't worry about having rest days from 10 000 steps a day.0 -
Depends on the speed, distance, length of time and terrain that you are walking.
Most walking sites recommend rest days with their 5K, 10K and 1/2 Marathon training schedules.0 -
You could probably go everyday, but in the beginning you would likely benefit from a day of walking less or not at all every now and then. It all depends on your fitness level. Walking 10,000 steps a day made me really sore when I started being more active! I definitely had rest days every now and then.0

Walk every day. Do not listen to anything else.
