Losing 5 kgs

Hi
I just got married 4 months back and have gained 5 kgs since there is a lot of socialising. Now I have joined a gym and my routine is to do cardio and strength training on alternate days. When I joined my weight was 62.2 kgs and when i checked after a week of workout it was 62.6kgs. This has really demotivated me and I am thinking of just doing cardio to lose some weight and then start strength training. Any suggestions would be welcome.

i lost about 20kgs a couple years back just from strength training with no excess skin.
Unfortunately i have regained the weight and more so im back at it again.
The scales have been going down each week by watching what im eating and eating smaller portions.
Now i know they lighting weights helps lose weight but yet i found myself the other day fearing it because what if the scale goes up a little.
For me this isnt going to be a quick fix journey and i need to do what i know works and for me thats lifting. i know the more muscle i have (even though i cant see it) will help me to lose more weight even when im not doing anything and the more muscle i have will help fill out my skin where the fat is so i hopefully dont have any/ limited excess skin this time.
Dont be scared if it goes up a little, its just a number!! focus on how you look and feel. Lifting will make you stronger and tone you up and it will also allow your body do some of the hard work for you0 -
The body does not have a system of week to week. Look longterm. Take starting measurements to compare later on and weigh once a month. Feel good about yourself and your plan.0

If you started exercising recently (or increased or changed what you were priorviously doing) you are most likely retaining glycogen/water in your muscles (normal and part of the process of muscles 'recovering'). Give it a few more weeks and assess then. If you are still not losing, then tweak your nutrition accordingly.0

Don't give up on strength training! The extra weight is just water weight. When you start a new exercise program using muscles you don't normally use, it's pretty common for the muscles to hold on to water to repair. If I wake up and my muscles are sore I know the number on the scale is going to be a little higher due to water weight. Once your body gets used to the exercise this won;t happen so much, and even if you do have extra water weight from time to time you should still see the number go down in the long term as you lose fat.
As the above poster said, more muscle = more fat being burned so may as well get started with that! It's also important to do strength training as you are losing weight to avoid losing muscle as well as fat when you are on a caloric deficit.0 -
Losing weight comes from a caloric deficit, not from exercise. Exercise help to keep you healthy and gives a larger deficit. Are you tracking calories? Additionally, it is normal to retain water as our bodies get use to a new exercise program.
Congratulations on both your decision to get healthier and your marriage!0 -

Are you dieting as well or just lifting/ cardio?.
I eat less than I used to and haven't added any extra excercise in and I have a steady gradual loss.
Saying that I may start lifting myself when I reach goal weight.0 -
