A good morning in the garden

Hey guys. It finally calmed down enough here at the Larro Ranchero that I got back to my regularly scheduled psychotherapy session this morning. That is a good sweat in the garden. I side dressed the melons and cantaloupe, and go them hoed out good. I plowed the peas, but couldn't remember if I had side dressed them earlier, so I waited until I could check on my garden thread at my tractor site. {that is how I keep up with planting dates, and the like} Also hoed part of the corn, but it got a little too sweaty, so I called it a day before I finished that.
Now for a few pictures. This is just on the way to the garden, but Orange is just too cute not post this. We have farm cats and not many of them are friendly, but Orange is one of the friendly ones.

The Banana cantaloupe were a whole lot less weedy than the melons. There are a few volunteer melons that had come up after I tilled in the melon patch, and I left the best looking ones.

This planting of peas is where the first planting of Banana cantaloupe were. I had plowed them once, and thought I had cleared out most of the volunteer cantaloupes, but I was mistaken.
Against my better judgment, I saved a few of the volunteer cantaloupes. When I'm hopping around on one foot trying to pick the peas I will regret it. But they just looked too pretty to plow all of them up. Like I said before, I couldn't remember if I had side dressed the peas or not, so I waited.

you garden looks amazing! i moved in to my house in december and I'm working on renovating it its a slow process here is mine so far
I spend most sunny days there
its just going to take a long time to get right

Gardening IS so wonderfully theraputic. But, two things:
1) lugging 50lb bags of dirt/mulch/whatever is, literally a drag and
2) helicopter parenting cucumbers (is that a dent in the stem?! Oh no, call the garden center!).

I envy you so much all that space. My garden is very small but I love it and all the little critters who live in it. Chipmunks, possums, etc. Reminded me of an old verse

My garden:
Very nice tomatoes. I had six rows of 12-15 plants per row that I grew from seed. They were cherry, beefsteak, Roma and Rutgers. The cherry's did best, but all of them suffered from early wilt, and I picked the last of them about a week ago. I bought some Cherokee Purple tomato plants, and they are blooming already. But I'm afraid they are going to get the wilt too. I guess I will have to grow tomatoes in containers.0 -
Some great looking gardens on here! I love gardening but we recently sold our house in the mountains and with it, my ever-growing garden. We're temporarily in a rental that has a sunroom, here's my little container garden. At least there are lots of fruit trees in the backyard!

Those are great looking plants. We did more container gardening year before last.0 -
Sure beats our garden, the weather's been so weird that not much has grown. For a while we didn't think we were going to have tomatoes but now we can't pick them fast enough. Something got thru the fence and ate the asparagus we had planeted. Our cats help with the garden work by laying where you want to dig, attacking you and the plants as you weed, and using any of the plants they can get under as shade.0

I got out just before dark and picked a few peppers, cucumbers and squash. This is my 2nd planting of cucumbers and squash. I grew all the peppers from seed, except for a few Jalapeno.
This is one of the hottest peppers there are, the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Pepper. I'm not really into hot hot peppers, but a friend gave me a few seeds.
We had a bad thunderstorm this afternoon, and the pepper plants are short. So there is sand splashed up on all of them. These are some bells.
The same bells, with Cayenne in the background. I also have New Mexico Chili's and Jalapeno.

I know about cats getting in the way. We have one who changed her name {well, I guess I changed it for her} to Hell B!tch. This summer when my 7 year old grand niece came from Colorado, I had to change it to Bad Word. She will rub against the plants until they break off if I don't chase her off.
This is when I was side dressing the 1st planting of Crimson Sweets. She wouldn't move, so I covered her front legs up with dirt. It didn't seem to bother her much.

I did that with a chili pepper. I had been telling my wife how mild they were, that it was alright to add two to the salad. I ended up rubbing my eyes and as mild as they were, it still burned like the devil.0 -
