Just bought a garmin vivofit, tell me about yours

I've only just started looking at the website and was slightly overwhelmed last night. I'll have another look after work today though.

What benefits and programs do you like most about your Garmin? Do you also use a heart rate monitor to get a more accurate reading for calories burned?

What difference has it made in your journey to getting more fit and healthy?

tell me anything, really! I'm up for any input (but don't want to hear about why another watch would have been better, I already have this one, so that would be a moot point now).

Well, mine is en route right now. I got the bundle with the HRM. I use my phone to track steps, but I liked the way the battery lasted so long on the Vivofit, and I wanted to get a HRM so I can get a better idea of how much I'm burning in winter which I switch from walking to other exercises like indoor rowing and using the stationary bike/treadmill (too much ice on sidewalks where I live). I liked that it worked together through Garmin Connect (not checked out yet, but I shall - I love data though, so this sounds like my thing) and that if I want I can add other Garmin products using the same platform (like footpods/watch for running).

The Vivofit band essentially just acts as a data gathering mechanism for the HRM strap when you use it. It's not particularly complementary to it.

If you've bought the HRM then use it when you're doing something like running, rowing, cycling, swimming and you can monitor how your HR responds to various elements of the session. It'll give you a more accurate calorie expenditure for those as the wristband uses your arm movement as a proxy and in those situations it's not a good measure.

I got a Vivofit sometime in May, I think. I ended up selling it and getting another Fitbit Flex. Well I returned the Fitbit and got another Vivofit. I love the battery life (no charging), being waterproof (gone swimming in the ocean) and no skin irritation! I must admit that it was a small learning curve. The thing I loved most about Fitbit is that it synced in the background and when you open you app it would sync without having to manually do it. I am getting use to doing this again this time around with Garmin.

I just purchased the HRM (the cloth like one like Polar) and I love that it has this feature and will automatically detect it when I have it on (after pairing it-once). It does though choose an activity for you and I think it just assumes its the previous one you did. You can edit this in the app though.

Since using Vivofit again I am beginning to really like it. I am also tired of waiting for Fitbit to release a new device!
