First week and no loss!! Wth?

Just finished my first week of counting calories and working out. I worked out for an hour 5 days and used approximately 1200 calories each day and lost nothing. What gives!? I can't give up because this weight has got to come off but I'm soooo disappointed!

Its been a WEEK. one week. 168 hours. Please realize that this a marathon, not a sprint. If everything happened that instantaneously we would all be slim in no time. Patience is a virtue. It will happen. Give it time.0

You didn't gain it all in a week, you won't lose it in a week.
Absolutely! It took me several weeks to see a loss when I started on here. I had already been exercising consistently, but not tracking my intake, so I learned that I was eating too much. You are most likely retaining water and that happens when you undertake a new exercise program. In the meantime, track your food intake diligently and weigh your food. Do you have a heart rate monitor? I got one and it really helps me figure out how many calories I'm burning along with my Fitbit.
Good Luck! You can do it!0 -
This is crazy... I JUST posted something about this a few minutes ago. I am experiencing the exact same thing as you weight loss wise as I started my weight loss journey a week ago as well and eating the same amount of calories as you. And to make it even weirder, we are the same weight and height! We just gotta be patient sister! We're in this together!0

Though I think it's most likely water retention due to exercise. I think people should just diet alone for a few weeks first, or diet and walk, not diet and Insanity or otherwise 5+ hours of tough exercise they're not used to.0 -

Muscle build.
No. You can't build muscle on a deficit, especially one as puny as a measly 1200 cals/day.0 -
Are you tracking all of your food and drinks accurately?0

It will happen......trust what people tell you The key is not to get frustrated that you give up. You made a goal, and put yourself on a routine.....stick with it and good things will happen0

Key words are "first week".
This ain't the Biggest Loser - the massive losses portrayed on that show, or in infomercials for exercise programs and weight loss products are not realistic.
THIS. Did you gain it in a week? No. So don't expect to lose it in a week. I can't stand people who expect the loss to happen immediately when the gain didn't happen that way0 -
Could very well be the working out. I have been doing about 40-45 minutes of cardio (elliptical/treadmill) and another 15-20 minutes of weights. Possibly water retention for sore muscles??
I definitely do not under estimate my calorie intake. If anything, I over estimate. I just found out a few days ago that I'm not eating enough tho because at 1200 calories, I wasn't eating back any of my earned activity calories. Will definitely be doing that from now on.
I am 5'5", 168 lbs. and have set my diary to lose 1 lb/week for those of you who were wondering about that.
I think you are eating too few calories. Have you calculated your TDEE? This is what has saved me. I'd bet your eating 300-400 less than you should be for optimum loss.
Everyone else is right, though...it's only been a week...try to have patience (as hard as that is, I know! )
Good luck!0 -

Sounds like you know what you are doing. Keep up the good work. You will lose.0 -

It takes time. Took me 2 years to lose about 95 lbs. I'm trying to shed my last 20 now and its quite hard. Once you get down into the lower weight ranges its a bit harder. You might want to consider changing your micros. Less carbs and more protein/fats.0 -
Sometimes my weight can vary up to 5 pounds (!) day to day. Around my period I always bloat with a bunch of water weight, but It comes right off after. Could you be experiencing that? Be careful about over estimating calories burned, and it sounds like your daily goal is low enough, so just hang in there. Weight loss is not linear. One day your up 2 pounds, then down 3, then up 2, then down 1. As long as the OVERALL trend is going in the right direction then you will get there. Keep logging!0

Give your body a few weeks to adjust. You have to trust the process...even if it is sometimes slow. Just trust it and keep going! Also, make sure you're eating enough calories!

I've noticed that a lot of people who have huge "results" their first week lose motivation very quickly when subsequent weeks bring less of a dramatic loss. So in a way, it's good when you have a slower start because you appreciate any downward trend. I started with a LOT to lose and my first week I think I only lost like 2 lb, while other women as big as I was were boasting 8-10 lb of water weight down in a few days. But my losses stayed steady over time.
Also OP, it's gonna be much slower to see results if you don't have a whole lot of weight to lose. Just try to be patient!0
