Okay since I started lifting, I think I ate a little too much of protein...
my weight is 101 lb, and heigh is 5, 3'... I keep saying many posts about eating 1 g of protein per 1 lb of lean body mass or body weight (?), and all I know is I'm eating protein at about 130 g almost everyday, but it's all under my calories goal... What are the downfalls of eating too much protein?

1. Actual scientific research shows that there is no benefit to eating more than about 0.85g/lb of protein.

2. If you consume excess protein, your body just converts it to energy and either burns it or stores it depending on your body's need at the time.0 -

130g of protein per day isnt 'too much'0 -
Not an expert, but I believe it depends on how you ingest it. I have heard that the processed "chemical" means, such as powder and bars can stress kidneys if over done. But like I said, not an expert.0

Keep it up. It's awesome that you manage to get that much protein in.0

I don't know. I heard that you suppose to have a lotof protein. At least that is what a Dr. Told me. I've also heard too much protein is not good for you. Me personally. If I was you. I would research it. I'm no expert.0

If you could die from eating too much protein, my son, who is 6'3" and eats way more than his body weight in grams of protein would be dead by now. However, the 1 g is per pound of lean body mass, not total weight. So you would have to know your body fat %, figure out how much lean body mass you have and eat that in protein. So 101 g would be more than you need. I'm 120 and curvy; I probably have about 85-90 lbs. lean body mass, so try to get between 85-90 per day (but most days don't succeed).0

Ah I see.. yeah, I heard that your body won't absorb anymore protein if it exceeds.. but as long as I kept under my calorie goal or at maintaince, it's okay right?
I guess I'm addicted to meats and protein wheys... HAHAHA. And yeah, synthetic and chemicals are NEVER good to our body... although I always use artificial sugar like Splenda instead of sugar - -"
I think my lean body mass is around 81 pounds, from bodybuilding.com (my body fat is around 19%-to be safe). I felt liek that's a little too less? If I eat around that, then the rests are fats and carbs to fill up my calorie maintenance levels, that would be hard! :O
Really appreciated all your answers!0 -
I would not worry about the protein, but about the fact that you are anywhere from at least 10-20 pounds underweight depending on your built ( frame. Even with a very light frame at 5'3" you should weight at least 111 pounds .0

From sniffing about the net, "too much" for someone with no medical conditions is approaching 600g a day.
As for eating more than you need, you'll start to smell funny. I notice it when I eat over about 130g. Took me ages to figure out why I smelt like someone else.0
